Hearing a wearing sound in the mid fifties
has new Potenzas, balance and alignment. I've noticed this wearing noise in the mid fifties and it is driving me crazy. The tire guys have even exchanged the tires.
I would bring it to the dealer, but I' ve also noticed a very hard shift when I really get on it. I don't know if all the symptoms have played out yet, and don't want to be paying through the nose for guess work.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks
Did it begin suddenly ?
Where is it coming from?
What does it sound like ?
Believe it or not the English language has lots of adjectives !
I asked that they change the tires to potenza re 970as, and this was done under tbeir 30 day satisfaction warranty.
The sound could most accurately be described as droning ( constant level changing in pitch)
There is no pulling as the car was also aligned yesterday. It tracks well.
I have noticed also that during fast startup acceleration that the transmission has banged into 4th on a couple of occasions.
Thanks for your interest
There is not any vibration from the tires
It has to noisy tyres. Very usual from new tyres.May just be the characteristics of Pontenta tyres. Chunky high performance tyres pump a lot of air .
Are the new tyres wider & of lower profile ?
Take the tyre seller for a ride then have them changed for a quieter tyre.
Re the bang into 4th , just wondered whether you have done the 39,000 mile ATM service ?.ie a full flush of the oil. Others will have more thoughts on this .
Thank you for your reply.
The transmission was fully serviced at 37k mil
I am hoping it has nothing to do with that. I'm patiently awaiting the arrival of the w205. I'll keep an eye on it though
Your probably right about the tires. This is the second set the tire dealer has put on and tbey are supposed to be quiet.
I'm going to keep the tires for another week and may change them again before the thirty days are up. I hate to be a pain in the butt. Lol
I'm thinking of just sending it into the dealer
Next week for a roadtest and driveline check.
It's probably the best approach especially if any more
rough shifing is experienced
You may be able to reset the " ATM learning " for a softer change.
