Question Map Lights in Rearview Mirror

Hey everyone,

I recently changed out all my bulbs in my 2012 W204 from standard to LED. The only two that have eluded me so far are the two map lights located inside the rearview mirror. I have searched everywhere and cant seem to find a write up about how to get to these bulbs to change them.

Anywho, I figured I would ask if someone has a write up with or without pics on how to change those two lights? I have the homelink package if that helps at all?

I might be off, but aren't these bulbs LED? The lights that shine down from my RV mirror have a slightly cooler color, and fire up noticeably quicker than a regular incadescent bulb.

They are a slightly different color but definitely not the 5K LED that I put throughout the rest of the car. If there is no way to get to them its not that big a deal to me since they are rarely, if ever, turned on. Its just one of those things that nag in the back of my head thinking "hey, you did all the other lights, why didn't you finish these ones?" I'm still searching and looking, if I do find a way to do this, I will take the appropriate pics and do a write up.

They are the same 194 wedge bulb found throughout the rest of the car. Stick a very small screw driver in the tiny slot towards the outside edge of the plastic bulb cover and it will pop right off exposing the bulb. Easy swap

So, I stuck a small screwdriver into the plastic and i noticed it turns either right or left. So do I just push up? Pull down?

I'll try to post some pics or a vid of whats going on. Would love to change these out.

Thanks for the help btw!

Just so we are on the same page, are you looking for the ambient mood lighting that is always on or the actual map bulbs that you press the buttons to turn on? If you are looking for the mood lighting then I do know it's a surface mount LED and you have to re-solder a new different color LED in the round hole. I wouldn't mess with that one myself.

Yeah we are talking about the map bulbs that you press to turn on. Definitely not messing with any of the mood lighting bits.

Hmmmm....I didn't realize they had changed the bulb cover from 2010 to 2012 for that specific area. I'm at a loss on this one. It has to be a twist and drop kind of cover I would guess. Sorry I can't be of more help, my 2010 is just different I guess.

facelifted models have different rear view casing. pre-facelifted was pretty easy and straight forward with just the obvious clip on the clear plastic lens. This one I took a look at and wasn't as obvious and seemed like the whole assembly needed to be opened or accessed somehow.

I don't get it, don't you just use the little notch and pry the cover out? They couldn't have made it too difficult to change since the bulbs inevitably burn out.

You would think so. I have a tiny screwdriver I placed in the slot and again I can turn the lens left and right but as far as getting underneath is to pull out or pry out, well I am afraid that any more force than I already used would break the lens if I am doing anything incorrectly.

I believe its the same bulb just a different, easier way to remove the bulbs. 194 Wedge LED. AZN Optics carries them. Great seller!

No luck here either on wife's 11 ML63, tried twisting it left/right, screwdriver on both notched ends. There's gotta be some super easy method.

Thanks for trying, still prodding and pushing here on my end. Just worried of destroying anything since the mirror is $800

Dealing with the same right now and I have tried everything SaphGreyC63 has without any luck. I am going to give up on it just like him since it looks like no one has figured this out yet.

I know this post is pretty old, but I have the 2010 C also and am trying to swap the lights in the rear view mirror. Do you know how to do this??
