Steering Wheel

I got a 2013 C250 loaner car when I had my 09 C350 serviced at a dealer. I really like the smaller steering wheel, it feels and grips better than the old one. My question was how much approximately will it cost to replace the steering wheel (labor+part)?

This is just a guess, but from other posts I've seen steering wheels in general go for $750-1000... As per labor, I am not sure how many hours of labor, but that's a starting number for you.

$1000 sounds reasonable, will airbag be included or I can use my existing airbag?

This one, which I have and really like a lot, will re-use your airbag.

http://www.ecklersmbzparts.com/merce...teering+Wheels

It replicates the design of the C63 wheel but using the original MB core which they obtain in Germany. The thicker rim and highly contoured surface and flat bottom feel great. I had another thread about this which you can find in Search.

I'd say you can find a good example of the updated steering for just a bit over $1000, and as far as labor goes, It took me 10 min to change it out myself. 2 hax screws and 1 bolt. very simple to swap out yourself. I believe there is DIY somewhere in here for it. BTW I'm trading my car in as soon as I find the car I'm looking for, and would be willing to trade my C63 steering for your steering wheel + $ of course

Thanks for the reply. Is it made in Germany? Easy to put the airbag in?

Yes, shipped here from Germany after the full trim and wrapping. I didn't do it but watched and it was less than five minutes with the proper tools. You do need to disconnect the battery before removing the airbag so the car does not register a fault code, or you need to use a laptop (or similar) to attach to the OBD port to clear the fault.

One more question before I place the order. Does it feel a lot better than the stock one or just a little bit?

A LOT! This and the upgraded antisway bars were the two best things I've done to improve the every-moment feeling of driving this car.!

2010 Calcite C300 with AMG Sports Package
Didn’t I read on this very site on another thread about retro fitting ‘face lift’ steering wheels to pre face lift models. The claim was that there was an issue with the buttons on the steering wheel not illuminating and that to get them to light up you would have to change out the steering column, or has this been resolved??
I too wish to update to the ‘face lift’ wheel but have reservations given the lighting issue.

I placed the order with ecklerssmbzparts.com but they said it's backordered till September, that's ridiculously long wait. Do you know if I can get it somewhere else?

Buy my spare wheel I have for sale in the classifieds, send it to them to do it and then sell your old one when the new wheel comes back .

If its a real AMG wheel, no it won't take your air bag. Sorry about the delay on the one I suggested. However, I think it worth the wait if you can't find one like it sooner.

I can't believe ecklerssmbzparts.com is the only place that carries the retrofitted steering wheel.

Hey Kenc1103, your first post said that you wanted to replace your steering wheel with the smaller wheel after driving a 2013 loaner. By that I gather that you wanted the 'Face Lift' wheel. If that's the case read my post at #11. If not I gather that you are after the C63 wheel (2007 -2010) which should be a direct fit. Search for vw_audi_motorsports. They ocassionally have wheels available approx US$1,200, bag included.

2011 C300 Sport 4MATIC
I have a steering wheel question. I have a 2011 Sport 4Matic and i am thinking of face lifting the current steering wheel. I like the AGM C63 style and from reading the posts it is plug and play almost after getting a new airbag. my interior is alabaster mb-rex ... can i get a steering wheel to match in color or should i just upgrade to a standard C300 steering wheel like the one below?

thanks
