I recently purchased a 2010 c300 4matic. Dealer claims its a sport package, but it has no rear diffuser. What can I check to see which it is?

Check for:

-Flat MB hood ornament instead of stand up three pointed star
-Three-spoke instead of four-spoke steering wheel (except for tan interior)
-Different size rear tires than in front
-Large MB emblem in front grille instead of plan horizontal bars with no emblem

If these conditions exist, you have a Sport (unless someone made aftermarket changes to modify a Luxury). The Sport has a black panel at the rear, as a valence around the exhaust. Diffusers with slats are aftermarket items, or come on the C63.

I believe (but am not 100% certain) that "Luxury" and "Sport" are North American nomenclature only, and that what we call "Sport" is "Avantgarde" in the rest of the world, while "Luxury" is "Elegance". Can anyone else confirm?

You may have a point but he's located in Virginia. As per his datacard, its a US model. Why it would say avantgarde is strange.

When I did my VIN decode (and confirmed by other VIN decoders), I did have specific SPORT package options in my datacard.

Mine had:

486 SPORTS SUSPENSION
952 SPORTS PACKAGE

His datacard also mentions 'elegance' so he may have the elegance package and not the sport.

 

But, if you go back on click on the VIN, as I noted above, the forum decoder comes up with Sport.

As to why the terms show up differently, you may be picking up a document used more for internal processes in Europe, where Sport and Luxury would probably be confusing to them. If he could find the Monroney label, it appears it should say "Sport" on that document.

I saw but I wouldn't trust that built-in decoder to be 100% exact. I am using the official Mercedes Benz EPC/Datacard application (same as dealers) and is updated as of March 2013.

From what I can see, slowc you have the ELEGANCE package and not the sport version.

 

Damnit, Its weird though. I have a flat emblem in the front and big emblem in the grill. My conclusion that is was a luxury was because it had no rear diffuser.......... someone posted a link to carlsson diffuser but thats to much i was hoping to find something on ebay. I just want the diffuser! >:l

How do you conclude that? All of those cues of flat hood badge and emblem in grille are for the Sport!

Unless someone changed the grille, hood ornament, and lower sill I can see flaring out just before the rear wheel, that is a Sport. The Sport does not have a diffuser standard....just a flat black panel. I took mine off when I bought a rear diffuser.

 

What does your steering wheel look like? 3 or 4 spoke? Black?

Something isn't clear here.....the center portion inside the steering wheel rim is either more like the letter "T", with spokes to the side and down, or like the letter "H" laying on its side, with four spokes from the hub to the rim. Sport has three spokes, except in tan interiors where they shared the Lux wheel since tan was such a low runner color for Sport, and Lux has four spoke wheels for all interiors.
