Traffic Icons
2012 C350 w/Nav here. On the Nav screen, from time to time I see little traffic icons on certain freeways or busy streets. Sometimes they're yellow; other times they're red. Or they're absent.
Is this real time info or just some sort of programmed average conditions for a given stretch of road? I have not paid for any subscriptions to any traffic or weather or Sirius stuff etc.
Or are they aliens who have landed?

At least here in the DC, the traffic alerts in the car are invaluable.

I bought it used, and presently do not subscribe to anything. I guess the capability is there; I wonder if it is active.
I haven't discovered how to access any weather data yet, so I don't know if it is there.
If I choose to subscribe to these services, is this done through an MB dealer or do you contact a third party?

If you are in the navigaion mode and select "Navi" you will have an option that says map settings I believe. You can adjust the options from there but to answer your question.
They are the traffic conditions. Streaming from Sirius traffic ($3/month) you will get yellow for slow conditions. Red for even slower. Nothing means the road is traveling at the desired speed. The conditions I believe are between 5-15 mins old so it is not exactly real time. But it works none the less.
You can also turn on a feature to show that the roads are free flowing...which is a green line
