2010 vs 2011/2012 C, Nav and MY differences?

Hello,

My sister is shopping around (or rather has tasked me to shop around) for a C300/C250 for her.

My dealerships weren't particularly helpful in explaining the model year differences and I couldn't find any good info online.

When was the facelift in the US models, 2011 or 2012? Does the 2012 have a different navigation screen or updated software? Are there still two different versions of the nav (small and big screen?)

Also, are there any features that are worth getting in a slightly newer model?

Thanks for the help.

The facelift was in 2012.

2008 - 2011 have the pop-up Nav screen, and 2012 is when the fixed screen came about. There are small changes year to year, but 2012 was supposedly a big improvement. You'll find here that some people think it is horrible, and some think it is quite good (myself being one of those).

In 2008-2011, there was a dealer installed add-on called Nav+4 that could be used with the base display to give it nav and some of the multimedia functions - if you search on youtube and on here, you will see people talking about it.

In 2012+ Mercedes switched to an add-on module called Becker Map Pilot for those who want to add Nav to the small screen. I had a loaner with it about a month ago, and while it wasn't as full featured as my COMAND, it was quite good.

The base screen on the 2012+ car is a huge improvement over the base screen on the 2008-2011 - it has a much higher resolution and better color saturation.

One thing of note - if you are looking at 2010s, don't assume because it has the pop-up large screen that it is equipped with Nav. On 2010 cars, there was a Multimedia package that included the bigger screen but no nav, and there was a Multimedia package that included the full COMAND nav.

The minor change in body style including the facelift started from 2012 models; That's also the first year that c250 was introduced to US. The interior dash screen is the same for all models post-facelift, and the COMAND software should be updated (if not, you could have the dealer update this upon purchase). For all models pre-facelift, the dash screen will differ by the package you have.

The dash screen is not the same for all models post-facelift.

The Audio 20 system is a 5" screen, and the cars equipped with the multimedia package or COMAND launch packages have a 7" high res screen.

I've never heard of this. For 2010 the multimedia package did not include HK sound anymore, but the pop-up screen and navigation are hand-in-hand.

They are not hand in hand on the 2010s.

On the 2010s, there were two different packages offered. I almost ordered a 2010 and remember having to specify the one I wanted when I was giving my price quote.

I can't find anything from MB about it any more, but here is a link with the breakdowns from MT.

Yes, there are two packages. Both include the 7" display, and both include navigation. The differences are in the Gracenote database and the voice system.

If you have the pop-up screen, you have navigation.
You may still have navigation without the pop-up screen if the vehicle has UMI
Starting with 2010 the 2008-2009 Mulitmedia package was broken up. You could have Navigation with or without the Gracenote database, you could have the HK7 system with without the Command system, etc.

I know, right? My dad has a 2009 6MT with multimedia. When I was helping him shop for it I knew that if it had navigation, he also got the gracenote database and the HK7 system. When I was shopping for my 2011 I had to look much more carefully and could not find a HK7 car anywhere in my area.

No, the cheaper system does NOT include Navigation.

Here - took searching, but found the brochure. Note the differences between the COMAND package and the Multimedia package. COMAND only package does not include Nav.

Wow.. okay.. that begs the question what the hell is the point? I thought the breakdown of the multimedia package was bad but this means it was worse. To be fair, I've not ever seen one equipped this way (and I shopped for a while).

That really makes used buying a real pain.

I think there is like 1 person here who has mentioned that their car was equipped like that - it makes absolutely no sense to me either! My sales guy mentioned it when I was looking at the 2010s and until I read the brochure I thought he was just an idiot who didn't know what he was talking about. I decided to wait for the refresh, though.

Fortunately this appears limited to 2010s. Maybe it was a supplier issue or something (like the S32 package in my car, which is the MM pkg with a single disc player and no reverse cam for a reduced price of $930... I added the cam back which brought it to $1,390 - exactly half the cost of the regular MM pkg but with no 6 disc changer)?
