Plastidip front bumper?

Anyone done it?, dipped the painted part under the large center grill?, does the black plastidip get really black or is it leaning towards dark gray?

I plastidip my badge and chrome trim on the trunk and they look black not gray. Wanted to plastidip the lower part of the 09 bumper too.

I was going to ask how did you peel off the tape without taking off the part that you painted since there's no gap.

i don't fully understand your question.

are you talking about the sides where the black and white paint meet?

the top of the black just blends in with the bottom grill so theres no need to worry, and the bottom part i didnt care much about because i threw my lip on after,

and for the sides, i used a really sharp blade to cut the plastidip so it wouldn't peel when i took the tape off, (!!!! I do not recommend this !!!!) - you might ruin the paint on the bumper

watch this video to get a better idea, before you attempt anything

i had the same part dipped on my car as you can see from the pictures

Id give it a go with just plastidip and tape, and if it doesn't work out the way u want it to, just peel it it off lol plus its less then $20

The way you remove the tape without peeling off the dip is you remove the tape after your last coat of dip. Check out dipyourcar.com, they have tons of youtube videos and a site of their own. They go over everything from all-over paint jobs, to painting trim. Seems really easy to do.

I did it on my '09. It's not perfect but does look better, IMHO, than it did before. I plan to re-do it this summer to try and "perfect" it.

I did mine and it came out great. Also did my grille and chrome around the driving lights. I'm thinking about blacking out the star on the grille too, as well as the star and chrome strip on the trunk.

For the bumper, I pulled the tape off in between each coat while the paint was still wet. See pics from my earlier posts:

I'll just add one more pic of it done on a white car. But with mine, I also did plasti dip around the led surrounds to make a "bigger vents" look.

A major advantage of using plastidip is that you can simply peel it off if you don't like it. Does not damage the paint at all and comes out very clean.

i'm not familiar with how plasti dip is applied, but wouldn't it be easier to just put on a matted vinyl wrap instead?

Plasti dip is applied with a aerosol just like a spray paint. The benefits over the vinyl though are its only $6 (US) and its so easy anyone can do it. Where some people like my self would rather not mess with the vinyl and trying to cut it.

I plasti dipped my grill and its holding up well. Plasti dip however is very sensitive. You can scratch it easily with your nail. Will this hold up as well since its closer to the floor and more susceptible to rocks, and trash you sometimes run over on the road or freeway? I would assume for this type of mod, vinyl will work best...and its still removable if you don't want it anymore.

How many coats did you do? I did 6 coats on my bumper and it has easily with stood the rocks and even scraping the entrance to my school.

I dont remember but it think about that many. The problem is its still soft rubber so no matter how many coats you apply it's susceptible to scratches. Not necessarily peeling off. And it won't look as nice when it does. Vinyl would be more resistant IMO.

Yeah no doubt the vinyl is more durable. My vinyl roof seems to be just as durable as normal paint. But I haven't had a single issue with Plastidip being too flimsy or too thin. Likes said I even did a test and scratched it with the valet key and it didn't effect it at all. But I do agree that the vinyl is better overall.
