2011 w204 transmission gears

I did some searching and could not find my answer. My 2011 w204 4matic sport I THOUGHT had a 7 speed automatic transmission however when I switch to manual mode it only has 6 forward gears... Is there an extra over drive gear when in true automatic or is my car only a 6 speed? Not a big deal either way, just curious

I think this question was answered a long time ago.
When you shift to manual mode, do you mean you briefly push the shifter to the left ("-" sign) once, and display shows "6"? If yes, it mean you were in "7" and you are in "6" now.

Switching to manual mode and shifting down one gear happen at the same time, no matter which gear you are in at the moment.

I am aware that when switching into manual mode that it always down shifts but even when I am cruising on the highway in manual mode, the highest gear that it displays is "6" before changed to a "D" if I upshift one more time. When it switched from "6" to "D" the RPMs remain the same leading me to believe that it has not shifted into a 7th gear labeled as "D" rather than "7".

Is this how everyone else's is as well? My transmission shifts smooth and has no known issues so I just want to make sure that it is functioning properly and that there isn't a 7th gear in there somewhere waiting to be discovered... Also, if there is a problem, I want to get it resolved while still under the MB certified pre owned warranty!

It definitely has a 7-speed. It does not sound like you have an issue. There's not that much difference between 6 and 7th.

Because it is in D does not mean it has to be in 7th speed. It could be in any gear depending on speed, throttle position etc etc. It will only change to 7th when all parameters are met. Sometimes holding the shift lever to the right for longer will force a change to 7th but only if you are not accelerating hard & only if the gear is appropriate.

The same applies to all selected gears. If you select 6th. It could be in any gear with a maximum of 6th & so on. Selecting a speed only sets that as the maximum gear the transmission will change up to.
