Are taillights supposed to come on with daytime running lights in Canada?
I have a Canadian W204 (2011). When the daytime running lights are on, the tail, marker and license plate lights are also on. Dealer tells me this is normal. Can any other Canadian W204 drivers let me know if just your low beams are on during daytime or if all your other lights are on (like mine) as well?

No they shouldn't be. It'll tell you on the dash when all your lights come on. During the day time when you pull into your garage you should notice a difference. It might be the setting you have your lights on. Just put it to A

Must be something different with 2011's. I don't have an off position, only "A" which is at 12 o'clock.

If all your other exterior lights turn on except for your actual headlights themselves, usually you've got the knob turned onto P mode which is the parking lights mode (11 o'clock position). In A(uto) mode (12 o'clock), only your DRL should be on, nothing else. Then in manual (1 o'clock) your full headlighting system will be on. Our cars are at least smart enough to turn off all lights after some time if left in park, so even if you leave the knob in another mode other than auto, your lights will eventually turn off saving your battery.

My 2010 US W204 does the same thing. As soon as the DRLs are activated ALL lights come on and stay on during all modes: off (on 2010s), auto, on, parking lights, etc.
I showed this to my service advisor when I bought the car and he stated that this was normal. However, when I noticed it took him about 5 minutes to figure out where the menu was to activate/disable the DRLs, I took his word with a grain of salt.
Perhaps there is something wrong with the auto light sensor that is causing the lights to remain in "on" mode all the time.

Maybe this is something I just need to live with...

In Canada: The DRL's are always on until the sensor feels it's dark enough to turn all lights on. Auto mode or not.
In the USA: All lights are off until the sensor turn everything on. Must be in Auto mode.
