Fog lights can be disabled with Xentry in developer mode. Low beams will be then Follow Me Home lights. I'll do this mod in few weeks.

Little warning.

I ordered and installed these cheap LED DRL's and they DO NOT WORK properly. Seller did not want to send me a new module either. After tons of e-mails I received a refund. The problem is in 13,3V startup voltage in this module, and a lack of capasitor in voltage detection circuit. Made a video of the problem: https://www.dropbox.com/s/fp4z9jtrmc...2020.51.54.mp4

I'm going to make a new module or dc/dc step up converter to make them work as they supposed to.

Hmm.. this one seems to include the relay switch? That's what I'm assuming those red boxes are. So these you just hook up to the battery and done?

This is not the same application we are looking at.

Is hooking up the LEDs to the cig lighter and battery kind of the same idea?

No more X-mas tree. Installed dc/dc converter last night and everything works great.

Cig lighter is +15R circuit, but if you have LED control module, then you need +30 circuit or +15. Actually it's a lot easier to connect to battery jump post or to front SAM compared to cig lighter. If you don't have led control module, then you must connect to +15.

You made it work with the "cheap" LEDs? How did you make a dc converter? Mind making a DIY? Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeaseeee? lol

Yes, it boosts and stabilizes the voltage to 14,3V now. It's way cheaper to buy it from ebay for $2.5.

Basic knowledge of car electrics/electronics and soldering skills needed of course!

Thanks! So it looks like I need to get a step-up converter and startup module. Which DRLs did you purchase?

You should build this harness and sell it to me.

I may keep the fog lights though. I was driving the other night in crap weather and was glad I had them.

Hmm.. those seem to be a little different than the 2011 factory ones. Also, where did you get the startup module and dc converter? Amazon?

Does anyone know if these also wire up the same as the aftermarket ones?

I have been thinking more about this mod. If there is a way to have the fog lights reprogrammed to run as day time running lights they we are laughing... The LEDS plug into the original sockets and they will come on and off with the car on... Bam. Done. Can this be changed in Xentry Developer mode?

Thanks for sharing but I'm . The idea is to make the LED bar lit when the engine started and LED off when engine is off. Based on the Schematic, why would I need the Startup Module and DC/DC Converter to accomplish just that? Don't you think tapping the LED bar Vcc directly to the relay isn't enough?

If you plan to install the DRL Controller suggested by "Doanster", all you do is to connect the controller directly to the Battery.

I doubt unless you fabricated your own matching connector. Removing the side marker bulb might throw an error. The afermarket LED bar do not run on same current to match the Side marker bulb. You might need to install a load resistor. Btw, is your side marker stays on when engine is running?

That would be great and I'm sure this had been thought about by many. The problem is, do you or any MB owner have access to Xentry and able to manipulate software? Would be nice if you can convince Dealer.

The dealer cant do it... It will need to be a local shop. I am going to find one and hook them up this way. Its the exact way it should be done.

Directly to the battery? Hm.. it would seem like less work.

It depends what you want. I personally like my car as close to OEM as possible. SO if I can use an existing wiring harness and such then I am going to. Better than routing wires and what not.

Same. I want the DRLs to turn on when the engine is on, off when the engine is off. That's it. And with the least complicated, error free method possible of course.

Then why are you making it more complicated? Buy the $30 relay/harness I linked, then hook it up directly to the battery as Katuga showed you above.
When you turn the key, the DRLs turn on. Take the key out, a few secs later, they turn off.

If you never try to activate the fogs by pulling the headlight switch outward, then you'll never get any error messages.
