I was looking for a new lower bumper grille on ebay and came across this. Looks kinda interesting, but I'm not sure how well they work. Not the cheapest either. Anywho, just wanted to see if anyone on here has given them a try.

Those don't seem to have the same grille style as the stock fogs. The price is much better though. I'm just wondering if anyone has given these kinds of DRLs a try. If they're a legit replacement and is relatively easy to install, I think they could be an awesome way to get that 2011 look without having to grind out the bumper, etc.

You would most likely have to cut the brackets that holds the foglights in place. There was a thread in the past where someone used OEM LED DRLs, and he had to do a small bit of modifying as well.

Are these gonna always be on or you need to turn the fog lights on? I guess unless you wire it to the side marker.

I think they only fit none sport model bumpers...

EDIT: I see now they make these for the Sport Bumper. They look decent. Now, how to wire them so they come on and the fog light delete doesn't throw codes...?

Oooo thats good that theres a cheaper source for them. Still not the most enticing price, but better than 400 I guess. I think there was a DIY thread from the past showing how to wire it to the sidemarker, but I can't seem to find it at the moment.. The biggest obstacle holding me back from trying to do this mod was the modifying of the bumper, ie. dremeling the fog opening, but if this is a direct fit and can be wired simply without throwing codes. It's about to be on.

I would if I knew how to wire them properly without throwing codes. I believe they need to be spliced in with the sidemarker wiring in order for them to function like true DRLs, but I'm not sure. I'm such a noob.

hmm.. I think the ones I found that are "designed" for models older than 2011 are meant to be installed without having to do any bumper modification. But I could be wrong. Hopefully I'm not, I rather not have to cut my bumper up. The wiring doesn't look too difficult according to that thread.. hmm...

You need to make plan on how to mount the LED's properly. If you would like LED's to lit on it's own, then you're best bet is to run a single wire from the Cig lighter all the way to the front. If you take this route, you need to install at least 1A fuse & IN5004 diode as close as possible to the cig lighter. This method has been done by some bimmer owners including myself. Lemme know, I'll make you a diagram. Now for Merc, caps may or may not be necessary but it aint difficult to install. Either way I guarantee it should work for yah

This car doesn't fit here but for reference purposes only. Newer Merc LED DRL tempted me to install this aftermarket LED on this car. Not satisfied, that LED's on Merc made me buy a W204.

What I believe we are talking about here is a product that has been designed for retrofit. The power/ground will be wired to the existing Fog light wiring as stated on the website. Problem here is the Fog lights will need to be activated for the LED's to work. What most will want are for them to come on automatically each time the car is started. In this car, power/ground will need to routed to a constant power source that it activated when the car is started. I would like to see someone install these properly and provide feedback.

Designed for retrofit in what way? Appearance, cosmetic, mechanical, electrical? Tap the LED to the marker wiring if you wish to drive around with other external lights on. If you can turn on the existing Fog lights as DRL from the command, then why not install the LED in place and install the load resistor in parallel. I'm quite new to MB and so far, I have not seen coding section yet. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
I coded my bimmer for other functions but I took the cig lighter approach to install the LED DRL. No coding, no error. LED turns on as soon as the engine started.
I certainly have no valid reasons to retrofit MY 2013 but I am more than willing to help you guys to make that LED work without flickering and error free.
Btw, how much would it cost for the OEM LED? Noticed, the aftermarket LED bar consists of 7 led's. Most likely those led's are group into 2 or 3 circuits. Question is, how long will it last before 2 or more led's go out?

Retrofit means adding to something that did not have it when manufactured. These lights are designed to bolt on to original housing and essentially be a plug and play application with some light wiring. Canadian cars do not have the same command functions as USA cars so it's different for a few of us. Buying the 2011+ LED bars would likely cost a fortune and not have the modifications necessary to work on a <2011 model. You could very well be correct that the LED's are not the same quality as MB would use, but they could actually be the same without examining. My guess is not though. I am reluctant to tap into existing wiring on my MB such as the side markers. I do worry about long term effects of something like that in a car that is extremely electrically sensitive. A good wiring tech could easily do this I am sure.

The LED from the link is designed to replace existing fog lights. Ads stated, it comes with load resistor. So basically, it is indeed a plug and play.
The LED will turn on in the same manner as you would turn on the existing fog lights.
Other than that, lemme know how you want it wired and I might be able to come up with recommendations for yah.
