i wish Mercedes was showing the car at the LA auto show, but i think even more pictures will be coming out soon...i have a feeling the brouchure will be leaked soon again, just like what happened with the CLA.

OMG I hate that last minute Nav screen look. Its in the CLA, GLA, the next FL CLS, and now the C, So its almost a guarantee that we will see it in the next E class.
I don't know why they think it looks good because it doesn't!

As an owner of an older S Class (2006), I'd be OK with the display if it's replaceable / upgradable. That's one thing I hate about an otherwise perfect car; I'm stuck with COMAND from 2006 with the last nav update being 2012 The C class is much better obviously, but it'll eventually have an end of life for the nav DVDs.

Interesting tech details here:

Will be interesting to see how an Airmatic equipped C-class rides and handles....

yeah same here...and MB has a nice shift knob as well! The interior on the W205 looks fantastic though; it really makes the current one look a bit dated now. I will also miss the number pad... .

If you drive one of the new Benz's you will realise that the intention is that you interface with the Nav/info screen continuously so no point in stowing. The new S Class even has 2 of them in the rear.

If you had not told me, I would have thought you were showing me the interior of a Yaris or a Cube. I guess there is no place left for elegance in a vehicle. This looks like it came out of a California Drifter. Oh, wait a minute, the current head of design was.

The issue is not stowing. The design faux pas is the total lack of integration. The same line of sight could have been achieved with the screen more integrated into the IP top pad, as in the current car or a variety of other possible designs used by many competitors. The W205 appears as if a child happened by and just dropped their iPad on top....almost offensively thoughtless.

Seems that the Germans are all heading this way, at least in some sense:
S3 (circular vents, floating nav screen (albeit not quite as after-thought-ish):
Current 3-Series:
VW Up!
Some kind of market research must have been done that shows that people like the screens to have a "floating" look? I guess?

Im curious why they chose to implement so much new tech (IE the touch controller on the handrest) in the C class before the S class. The S has always been the holy grail of 'firsts' for Benz tech. Id have expected them to roll that out in the new '14 W222 first.

Yes, but you can see from the size and content that this is a very low end car, so VW saved investment of the IP pad by just allowing this attachment. The base car likely has an open attachment plug. At that end of the market, design often needs to be even more compromised by the financials, and the market will bear it. The Audi is more purpose-driven with stowage for unused times. Even BMW has improved their first freestanding screen in the new 2 Series, which resides more in it's own "valley" in the IP pad. Hard to say whether this unfortunate trend was research-driven or even verified, or if this is just a Euro-fashion trend which has to (quickly!) run its course. Sometimes, as I recall from my prior insider career, the designers win out over the market data...GM minivans or Pontiac Aztek ring a bell?

@Sportstick,
Good thoughts on that. It does make sense to move in this direction to allow cheaper integration of non-nav cars, but that in a way doesn't make sense as it seems more and more cars just put a screen there anyway and leave out the nav/gps software. Maybe this allows them to remove the screen altogether for non-multimedia package cars.
This interior is great, but as always, show me the entry-level trim. I'll be we're looking at an interior with every bell and whistle, some of which won't even come to our market, and totals close to $60,000. Show me the C250 $45,000 interior.

As far as the nav screen goes, the most offensive solution to me is the "double hump" dashboard that first popped up in the last-gen 7-series and has popped up in... just about every BMW and MB since. I actually think the "clipped on" screen is significant less tacky (although still not great), esp when it sits in front, rather than on top, of the dash. I also wonder if the lack of the double hump makes it easier to do the stitched dash.

i refuse to buy an expensive car with a stupid ipad attached to it.
BMW's sollution isn't perfect either but its better then what mercedes is doing now. if they dare to put this in the E and CLS there is no way my next car is a mercedes again
