'11 C300 Sport-Engine light on, filled up with E85
So here it goes...I ran my tank down to where the gas light came on shortly before I got to the E85 ethanol pump (first time using E85 in my C300 with 26,500 miles on it). I filled it to between 1/2 to 3/4 of a full tank and proceeded home for the night. Woke up this morning and started the car, drove a few miles and the 'check engine light' came on. I still drove the car to work, approximately 20 miles further and is where it presently sits. Do I have anything to worry about? Will the light go off eventually...perhaps because this is its first time to burn the E85? Do I need to go to the dealership immediately and have them drain the tank and refuel with 93 octane regular unleaded? Please help! Thank you!

Do you have a yellow gas cap?
If no then you will need to get to the AD ASAP your car was not set up to use E85. As far as I know the only model year that the W204 in NA was compatable was 2008 unless special ordered. Maybe a very costly mistake.

Come on guys, don't scare the poor fellow. I've got the same year car, and it doesn't have a "yellow gas cap," yet the inside of the fuel door says e85 is ok as does the owner's manual. So I'm pretty sure he won't have a major maintenance issue because of the e85. I suggest filling her up with some proper 93 'tane Chevron or other top tier brand, drive it around a bit and the CEL should go away. Oh, and never fuel with ethanol again. Even if "approved", it will degrade the engine and hoses over time, the mpg takes a hit, and the environmental aspect is questionable.
Edit: I just noticed in your other post that you recently installed K&H filters. That might actually be the root cause for the CEL coming on. Others here have had that issue with the new filters not fitting tightly enough and not sealing properly. Put your old filters in and see if that helps!

Long thread on E85. It has been discussed at length many times since I joined in 2008. My 2008 had the yellow cap and my 2011 and 2013 do not. Definitely have your AD check it. I do not think one tank will do major damage but I know if it was my car I would have it checked. But then again I only keep a car two to three years anyway.

Thanks for the replies, Im going to the shell or Chevron station after work and filling it comletely with 93 Octane and see what happens. The mysterious yellow gas cap label doesnt appear inside my fuel door but the manual says all 2011 C300s are flex capable...
About the K&N...I had a similar problem as another member with the filters not fitting properly so I'm going to swap them originals out when I get home and see if the CEL goes off.
Thanks!

All is well...after filling it up with 93 octane I ran it down to about 1/2 tank and the light went off. Thanks for everyone's replies. Dodged a bullet there!
