Unhappy Brake Upgrades

Hello everyone I have 54,000 on my wife's c300 and we have been through 4 sets of brake pads since buying this car new. Does anyone know of some better brake pad upgrades that we can have better performance and life from?

This is a high usage rate. Have you talked with her about driving style? Does she inadvertently rest her foot on the side/edge of the brake pedal while driving? Is there a lot of crowded city stop/go driving?

In any event, lots of folks here are happily using Akebono EUR. The part numbers for many C Classes are 1340/1341, but check their site for your specific model. They are sold at reasonable prices on Amazon. And, you can toss out any wheel cleaner you may have....these are amazingly dustless.

Something is not right- 4 sets in 54K miles? I had 60K on my 2008 with "spirited" driving and still hadn't replaced brake pads.

Does anyone know if Hawk or Porterfield make brake pads for our cars "c300"?. Usually I order from TireRack but they only have the Akebono pads.

**UPDATE Found what I was looking for.

I have used many different brands and types of pads on my cars over the years, and now buy only Akebono. They are dust free, quiet, rotor friendly, and offer excellent performance.
I have also used different types of high performance pads, and like high performance tires, are a topic for interesting conversation, and will add to a list of modifications, but in reality, offer very little to 98% of the drivers.

Thanks everyone for the help, I guess we'll be trying the Akebono pads to hopefully get extra use!

If you ever have a chance to follow your wife in traffic, keep an eye on the brake lights. There are those who perhaps unintentionally press the brake pedal at times when not needed/desired. That could be one way to grind down even Akebono brakes.

Absolutely agree. That is excessive pad consumption. It is most likely driver related.

Be tactful when telling the better half this.

Or better yet, try to work it out where someone else tells her...wives/girlfriends to husbands/boyfriends seem to be like teenagers are to parents...always wrong...
If someone else just happens to note a bad habit and mentions it, it may go over better...

Oh yeah, if she is a "two footed" driver, that should explain it pretty easily.
