2019 GLA 250 - I am in purgatory right now...
Thermostat Replaced / would you complain?

Hi Guys,
I am getting really tired of paying $180 per hour and getting treated like I'm going to the corner gas station.

I just had my Thermostat replaced ($600) and while I don't mind paying a premium for an A mechanic this guy busted my plastic engine cover and goobered up my housing bolts. You can see the air pump bolt right above, that was supposed to be removed to access the bolts as per the rate charge, but you can see it never was and he just jammed the socket on at an angle and did a good job of rounding off the head on the bolt.

I made an appointement with the service manager. I am going to request they replace my plastic engine cover (this is how I found it when I opened the hood) and replace the Thermostat housing bolts.

Should I just drop it and move on, just being to picky?

Make as big a stink as you can. From experience I never leave till my SA and I inspect the whole car. I also make a point of having him see me write down the mileage and check it afterwards. On my 2008 after someone scratched the hell out of the front hood and the SA said I did it. I started to bring a camera and take pics with the SA in them. Stopped that extreme inspection after he quit.

Hindsight says to have a before pictures which will help your case, but if if you are certain it was damaged , then complain to the manager. Keep a level head, stay cool , be respectful while staying assertive.

I would be extremely pissed if they broke parts of my car and went by without addressing me about it and not fixing it. Make sure you get those parts fixed/replaced for free.

Totally unacceptable. If those parts had been broken when it came in it should have been pointed out before repairs were started. I would raise this issue to whatever level needed to obtain resolution.

Good that you inspected the work afterwards. I just step into the car and take off, trusting the service department that they did their job professionally.

Going into my 3rd MB now and the idea that MB treats people fair and as a valued customer is dwindling for me after having a bad service experience
and generally the lack of trying the earn the next sale ((emails and calls not being returned).

and for sure have them repaid and replace, otherwise they may blame it on you on your next repair and accuse you of tampering with the engine (probably stating that their MB tech would not cause such damage)
