Replace OEM bi-xenon with Philips BlueVision Ultra

I am looking to replace my OEM bi-xenon with some blue-ish light. I am an amateur at lightning so I have some noobie questions here

1. Because OEM bi-xenon is the same as HID, I shouldn't need to install extra things (ballast, ignite, etc.) to replace OEM bulbs, right? A pair of D1S bulbs will be enough to transform?

2. What is the difference of OEM bi-xenon vs HID kit? I am curious because I have heard people installing HID kit to replace their OEM bi-xenon (myth?)

3. I found this bulb Philips Xenon BlueVision Ultra. Looks like something that would work for my project. Have any one tried it? Feedback?

Thanks in advance!

There are a LOT of super cheap "upgrades" available that are total crap. I was in your position a couple months ago and wasn't sure if spending the extra cash would be worth it. I can say that the MTEC Xenon HID kit is amazing. You don't want the super blue look-that looks cheap and ghetto. The MTEC 6000k are bright as hell crystal white. I paid $270 for the kit and $50 to have professionally installed. Very happy with the investment. If your model does not have the premium package with the xenon headlights, it will cost you probably $5k to have OEM Xenon's installed correctly. Go with the MTEC HIDs and you will be VERY happy. Hope this helps.

My car is a 2012 C250 sedan

One thing I'd like to mention is that the MTEC are very bright. So bright that often times people flash their brights at me b/c they think I have my brights on. The MTEC's look amazing, the color temperature looks diamond white with just a hint of blue and match the fog HID's perfect.

I also purchased the 6000k crystal white Parking Bulb from Motoring Max store on Ebay. No error came up and I did the install myself-very easy. Now my entire front end has the whitish/blue 6000k look with no ugly orange. Last thing I'd like to do is swap out the front bumper side marker (OEM is orange) to the clear ones. I think this would give a super clean and sharp front end look. Also having a 3M clear bra installed next week

Here are the white/blue parking bulbs>

@Project C: sure I think of getting some tips from AZNOptic as well

@bostongreg:
Thanks alot for the info and advice! I really like your set up with the MTEC kit.

I am actually looking for an option without having to install an HID kit. My car came loaded with the OEM bi xenon headlight premium package so I think I might not need an HID kit. Changing D1S bulbs would be enough for my case?

Is there any big pros of HID and compared to stock OEM bi xenon? Any reason why I should switch to HID instead of stock xenon?

Also I read somewhere that they don't make an HID kit for D1S bulbs?

Thanks!

You just need to replace your Bi xenon bulb to higher kelvin...
Aznoptic offers different varieties to stock bi xenon for owners like us👍

Do not exceed 6000K or the effective light output will drop off. i.e don't go too blue. As Xenon burners wear they naturally move to the blue end of the spectrum. That's why Benz usually use 4300K lamps. Most perceived light.

This might also help used in conjunction with Eye colour temperature sensitivity

Damn, I am very upset that my '12 C250 didn't come with the XENON gas headlights. I really wanted them. I don't have heated seats either or the paddle shifters on the wheel. I'm only 31 and $30k was a BIG purchase for me-my first new car purchase direct from MB. I was pretty proud of myself but couldn't get all the options I wanted.
One new thing I noticing...my model does't have the "eyelid HID's"....are these only on the models with XENON? I must say I LOVE the Mtec-I guess it's next best after the XENON LOL

Awesome, thanks! How much do you think it would cost to have the paddle shifters put in? That would be sick. Thanks for all the info!

Is there any reason why you choose Philip Xtreme 4800k?
