Help! Any MB tech who can chime in.

I hoping a Mb tech here on the forum can chime in on this issue. I took my 09 c300 for several things. The one in question is the following. My battery died on a Sunday and dealer was closed. I didn't think of roadside until after the fact. But anyway, I told the dealer I wanted the battery reimbursed because I bought the car 5 months ago. When they got back to me they said that the battery died because of a faulty cooling fan motor. They replaced the cooling fan motor under warranty but cannot reimburse the cost of the battery due to a electric fan issue not because the battery was bad. But they acknowledge that the battery went bad due to the fan. What I don't understand is why. There part ruined the battery, it should also be warranted right?

Your cooling fan drained your battery, a full recharge and the battery should be fully operational again.

If your battery has a faulty cell or similar it is most likely not because of your fan breaking.

Battery should just have required recharging. Only caveat that it did not overheat due to a short.

Battery was weak since I bought the car. I just didn't notice because I never owned a MB before now. Funny thing is it would always start on the spot. Why I know the battery was weak to begin with, is because the NAV screen rolls out when starting but would pause halfway until engine was fully running. Then it would continue to open. I thought that was normal operation. They claim the cooling fan was what killed the battery. So they changed the cooling fan under EXT warranty and told me to shove it on the battery. I can clearly say they are full of chicken poop! But we all know they usually are . I think they blamed the cooling fan to cash in on the warranty and to avoid reimbursement of the battery.

That's your logic for your battery being weak???

I guess what I should of added was.... around the third month I was experiencing weak starts. So the battery was slowing shorting out cells. Is that better?

I'm not dismissing the possibility that the cooling fan could have been drawing more amperage, where ultimately drained the battery but not killing it.

I don't know what to tell, other than the battery has always been considered a wear and tear item, like tires and brakes. I can't recall anyone getting a new battery under warranty, unless it was within a year of buying the car or the within the battery's warranty. Just suck it up, buy your battery and be on your way. Don't pay dealer prices for the battery btw. Just get the one from your parts store that fits.. Chances are it will be made by the same manufacturer as your OEM one.

That's where my argument is!!!! I only had the car for 5 MONTHS on a CPO. I know all about wear and tear. I'm a service writer myself. Read slowly and you will understand!!! First comment.
