Anyone have tips on how to fix my driver-side headrest?

Hi everyone.

My driver side headrest on my 2008 C350 is a little broken. I attached a few pictures.

Does anyone know if I can switch the driver and passenger headrests? Or ideally, fix the driver headrest? It is hard to explain but it is very loose and it doesn't move back and forward like it used to.

Separate question: the tip of an auxiliary cable broke in my glove box input. Has anyone ever had to take that apart to fix or get into that area? I'm unable to get the tip of the cable out so I can't use the aux input!

Thanks!

Someone did pull in front of me a few years ago. It wasn't enough to trigger any air bags.

I haven't heard of neckpro so i will look into that! I wish I knew that when the insurance company paid for the bumper replacement

I was rear ended a little while ago and both my headrests popped open fully. I took it to the dealer and one of the guys forcefully pushed them back into place. There should be some sort of locking mechanism when pushed all the way back in.

In my case some plastic parts around metal (seen inside on your picture) is broken. Did they change some parts inside?

Same problem

I have the same problem. There's a YouTube video on how to remove the headrests which takes about 5 mins to do and is very easy. My passenger headrests lever is loose so the head cushion swings rather than force-ably moves. I can see a lot of broken plastic in there but can't seem to work out how to get it apart without breaking it further. Any help would be appreciated

Hi, You can do what I did, at least temporary until you get them replaced. I used 2 zip ties and managed to tied the two pieces together. Now they dont pop and you can't tell there are held together inside with zip ties.

Someone told me that this would render the headrest useless in a case of a rear collision, and they may be right, but I doubt that they would have worked properly the way they were.

I am sure that it is better to have them replaced.

I wanted to get it properly fixed straight away as it's the only thing on the car that's not functioning as it should. Having a nightmare trying to find a replacement without going to Merc direct as I've heard new ones can cost £250-£300

No, they simply pushed it back into place. The headrest cushion can tilt forwards or backwards. When tilted back into the headrest I can see some of the innards of the headrest, but when tilted forward, it looks perfectly normal.

Instructions on how to reset the headrest are in the owner's manual!

Edited to add: on my 2008 Owners Manual, the instructions are on page 427 under the heading "Resetting activated head restraints"...

Unlike thr airbags which are pretty much damaged if ever deployed, these are designed to disengage and only need to be reseated for them to be ready if one happens to be involved in another collision.

Of course, you are free to replace them if you so choose, and I assure you that you will likely find a dealer to take your money for a new set, but in reality, doing so would be throwing money away!
