Paint chipping around gas cover

I was washing my car today and saw this

I just got this a week ago and haven't had a chance to fill the gas tank yet, so today being the first day noticing it. Has this ever happen to anyone? What can I do about it? I cannot believe this type of craftsmanship happens to a Mercedes. Pretty disappointing

E 63S Wagon Renntech, E55 Renntech, SL65, SL 55 030, ML, bunch of old ones--they come, they go...
Most likely....

1. Damaged and refinished at the dealer...
2. Damaged and refinished at the port. But very rarely is the quality of repair work coming out the VPC that poor.

Ask dealer for explanation. Tell them you want to show it to regional rep on next visit. Make sure an RO is written. Get a copy. Stick with it.

Wow this is crazy. I would come back and blast the dealer until they agree to fix it.

5 hours away from the nearest dealership or the dealership you dealt with to purchase the car? That's going to rust eventually and it's inexcusable for a Benz. Old Japanese cars don't have this issue.

5 hours from the dealer I bought my car from. My nearest MB dealer is about 20 mins away.

Another round of ICE
I assume you bought the 2013 new. In that case, any dealer is obligated to support this car. I suggest going to the most convenient/best dealer and asking for an inspection. If, as I suspect, they conclude the car has been repaired and refinished, you should ask for a meeting with a MBUSA rep at the next visit to the dealership. At a minimum, if the car was repaired prior to sale to you, you may wish to consult with an attorney to understand your rights in your state.

Just re-read the entire thread, and I see I am duplicating post #9.....sorry, but this is our best advice.

It's unfortunate....just that fact that it needs fixing. It's paintwork which shouldn't fail like that at all.

Thanks for all your advice. I already sent email to MBUSA and the dealer I bought the car from. It's a 2013 CPO with 6500 miles, shouldn't fail like this. I will call my local MB dealer tomorrow to request an inspection. Thanks again

You might want to get a CARFAX report on your vehicle to see if it had been involved in an accident. Since this is a CPO vehicle, the paint damage may be the result of a repair performed by the previous owner. If you find anything suspicious in a CARFAX report, you might want to negotiate for a replacement vehicle. If the damage is the result of a faulty repair, there could be other areas that start to fail in the future depending on how much was repainted. Simply retouching the paint around the gas cap may not be adequate unless you can get a written guarantee for the rest of the paint against peeling in the future.

I have reviewed the carfax report before I bought the car and it was clean. It was a loaner previously by the dealership. I doubt they will replace my car but yes I will definitely get a report saying they will cover against any peeling

Update: Dealer (whom I purchased the car from) agreed to fix and warrant the repair. I will go to a regional MB dealer and get it fix this week.

Unfortunate it happened, but good news the dealer is fixing it.

Pleased they are covering it as they should.

Out of interest. Has this car had alcohol laced fuel spilt on the paintwork?

Not sure, dealer claimed fuel spilled over causing the peeling. I'm just glad it's gonna get fixed and cover, hopefully no issue in the future

Thanks. Modern paints should tolerate alcohol but I have seen some issues here & in Brazil.
