Command Update?
Hi there,
I need to update my command software, my car is a 2011 and it has not been updated since then, I didn't think I would need to update it until I moved to the west coast recently, my version is a V7.0.
Any recommendation to avoid paying $250 to the dealership?

I just bought my 2011 c300 last week and was wondering that too..
But from browsing around, I found out that there isn't much that is updated besides repositioning of some menus and color scheme changes? (perhaps i'm wrong though..)
I would gladly like to know if it's worth the dealer price, or if it is necessary at all

Congrats on your purchase!
I personally could care less for menus and color changes, I just want my map to recognize all roads, sometimes I have to use google maps on my phone, I just have an old software!

The navigation updates are more than operating software. The updates are provided by NAVTEQ who are partnered with MB to put the data on the DVDs. Besides updating of new roads, the points of interest, such as restaurants, banks, shopping center, etc... are updated. I usually update my COMAND every 2-3 years for my 2005 C230 and for my 2013 C350.

Like Capt Paul said, what you'll need is a newer map DVD. Check out eBay if you don't want to spend a lot of money at the dealership. I found a 2013 disc a year ago for under $200, well worth it :-)

You mean the maps or the firmware? Maps you can order online and do yourself. The firmware the dealer has to do.

TheRulesLawyer, I'm not sure if I need a firmware update, but I definitely need a map update, maybe I need to do both. How can you verify if you need a firmware update?

According the link, firmware updates are done at no charge for cars under factory warranty, my local dealer is saying it's not covered, I asked around and everyone says i have to pay out of pocket.

Contact Mercedes Benz themselves for the definitive answer, all I know is in the UK the first 3 years are free from 2011 with NTG4.5. By the way any update also updates the Gracenote database. It's not just maps, how do you think it knows which CD is playing?
