I know its kind of pointless but i want one.
So apparently you can buy the push button part (see ebay link) and just wondering if my car can use it or if i need to get a proper key fob with a keyless start function.

I drive a 2011 MB C250.

"Only works if you have Keyless Go option (code 889) on your vehicle. "

When I was doing my due diligence before I bought my (wife's) car, I read somewhere that "adding" Keyless Go was a whopping $4000 in just parts. Not worth it to most people.

Let me clarify
So I had this same question when I first picked up my c250. Check your door handles to see if there is a small square on the outside of them that should be the same color as the rest of the car (not the small black one on the drivers door handle). That little square on each handle is whats used to detect your key which will allow you to not only open and close your vehicle without using your keys but will also allow you to use the keyless go/push to start. The $4000 would be if you don't have the sensors on the doors and would need a complete overhaul. Thankfully mine had the sensors and was only a matter of buying the button and "installing" it.

Let me also say that you do not need any special key fobs, they should all work the same as long as the sensors are available on your vehicle

interesting... so you're saying if you have what you describe you might have keyless go, just not the push to start button?

Yes!! As strange as it sounds that's exactly how mine was. I had it all set up and was already able to open my doors without taking the key out of my pocket, all I had to do was buy the button!!

False. You cannot tell any difference from looking at the keys, but the internals ARE different. When ordering a key, the parts dept must know if its Keyless Go or not. You can tell by either seeing if you have code (889) like Funkwagen said, or if your vehicle locks/unlocks by touching the exterior door handle. You don't need the button for lock/unlock function.

It seems your car was equipped with Keyless Go but missing the button. Did you purchase it new?

This ^^^^^

When I factory ordered my w204, the keyless go button was not installed. It was instead in a plastic bag with other accessories like the keyfob. The dealer let me have the honors of installing it during delivery. I bet that Mercy250 already had the option, but the button was not installed.

the button is meant to be installed by the processing centre that receives your vehicle and makes it complaint with local laws...your dealer played it smooth by "giving you the honour" LOL 😉

Nice opening post, so I guess welcome. However you are incorrect to assume functions regarding keyless go and "local laws".

Example: My "local law" requires front license plates, however my dealer or what you call "my processing centre" does NOT install front license plate brackets (by default) to preserve the look of the car, but will do so at the customer request after the fact if desired.

2010 c350 sport
Does my 2010 c350 sport have the keyless go option? If so then all I need to buy is the button?

At least on the FL cars, you can identify Keyless Go by the presence of door handle chrome sections. If the door handle is solid body color, the car doesn't have KG ...
