C200CDI Auto Problem?
I have just picked up a 2009/59 C200CDi Sport Auto. Lovely car!!
However there seems to be a problem with the auto box.
There seems to be a delay in acceleration and the transmission seems to hold it in first gear for 1-2 seconds before switching into second. even sometimes when it switches from 2nd to 3rd.
This is really frustrating as it makes the whole experience of driving the auto jerky
I also noticed that when at a constant speed of just say 70mph, the rev needle seems to constantly twitch (similar to when a car is idle and it misfires), This however makes no difference to the driving experience but i find it really odd, what could this be??
I have read a number of times that there was a software update for the gearbox but just wanted to confirm if it is true?
Any help would be appreciated as apart from this, the car is beautiful!!
If you have not ever driven an auto MB you will be concerned about the noticeable delay when taking off. This is the way it is designed to protect itself.
You may have another problem though.
How smooth are the changes when you take off in a relaxed fashion?
I understand the auto goes through a learning process with a new driver & will respond to the way it is driven.eg with a relaxed driver it will change up to a higher gear more quickly that with a boy racer.
How many Km has the car done? Was the auto trans service done ?
Hi carsy - i have driven a few mercedes autos but not for a while (2009 c220 cdi but a long time ago, 2013 e220 cdi, 2005 e55k amg to mention a few lol) but none of these as far as i can remember had this problem.
I would say even when taking off in a relaxed fashion there is hesitancy and "sticking" before it changes up
I have done the transmission reset yest (ignition on, pedal to floor, 5 sec hold, off, 2 min wait) but still seems the same
I have attempted to ask the dealership if the transmission service was done but as always they are useless
If there is no indication of a service, as the first step, I would have a 100% flush done with filter change.
I will try and contact mercedes head office this week to find out if it has been done.
Am i right in saying that originally mercedes said the gearbox oil was sealed for life but must now be changed every 39k miles?

I have the 5 speed box & drain it every 50,000 km.
The 7 speed needs to be flushed to remove all the oil.
Good luck.

I believe some torque converters do not have drain plugs hence the system flush. Make sure your mechanic takes all the oil out.
There are lots of write ups on flushing on the search engine on this site.
