Car shake when turning engine off??
Hi all,
My car is suffering from the following problem, when switching off the car the whole engine/car seems to shake
Its a 2009/59 C200 cdi auto
Any ideas of what it could be?

Think you'll find that most diesels do this. If you're used to diesels and this seems worse than normal then it could be the engine mountings need replacing. I think there's 2 plus a mount for the transmission that should be done at the same time. Good luck.

I have driven diesels pretty much for all of my last 9 years of driving lol
it is definitely something odd
i read somewhere on the forum that it could be to do with the timing of the engine? timing chain problem?

I haven't experienced it with mine after 5 years driving it from new on day one - apart from the very slight "shudder" that you get with most diesels. Can't help reference the timing chain I'm afraid.
Might be worth a quick diagnostic by a trustworthy dealer. My experience of the ones I've used is pretty positive.

Yeah to be honest i havent experienced any shudder like this on any diesel in the past.
I might have to get it checked at the indy when I take it in for a gearbox service

Sounds like engine run-on. It's not uncommon in diesels, but it shouldn't be a violent shake.
Go to a mechanic who knows his stuff and explain the issue. Tell him to check your timing and check for carbon buildup. Those are the 2 most likely culprits.

I would check the engine & gearbox mounts . My 220 CDI has always had a slight shudder when shutting down.
Let us know how you go on both issues.

Back with an update
Had the gearbox serviced today, with full flush of the oil including that held by the torque coverter. To be honest car still drives the same, no noticable difference but was done for piece of mind
In regards to the engine shake when turning off, the engine mounts looked fine but the gearbox mount may need changing soon as according to the mechanic there was a "split".
Whether or not this was causing the problem i dont know because the shake is still there
Not sure if there is any thing i can do to test whether or not it is the mounts or infact it is a timing or carbon build up issue?

Did you receive any feedback on the colour of the oil & how dirty the filter was ?.They can take it apart to inspect for debris.
You do at least know that the GB is not going backwards because of inattention.
Can you live with the auto changes? Maybe see if anything develops in the medium term or you never know you become used I to it. The only other alternative I see is to have an expert diagnose it.
I would also see what develops with the shudder. Mine is noticeable but was there since new.The GB mount should not be too expensive to change at the next service.
Enjoy your new car. It is a beauty.. car of the year here.

The oil pan was clean and free from any debris. The oil itself was actually brown in colour when in fact the oil is supposed to be red
Im not sure if im going to be able to live with the gear changes; i find it quite irritating how delayed it can sometimes be but at other times its perfect. Its very noticeable when in C mode and it switches from 1st to 2nd, its the moment its about to change and just after the change which really annoys me because its as if it freezes and then all of a sudden shoots off
Im not sure if ivasked before but others have mentioned a gearbox software update, do you know anything about this?
Yeah i will get the mounts changed as soon as i get the chance
Yeah thanks mate, cos apart from that the cars beautiful!
Will be giving it a good clean so will hopefully have some pictures up tonight

Sorry, I do not know about GB updates but your local MB dealer should. I should also ask them about a diagnosis.
