Anyone replace a whole tranny for a rear bushing?

Went to the dealer yesterday. They told me to replace the whole tranny. It's making a noise in the very back where the driveshaft bolts to. Louder I drive the louder it gets. They said its way to expensive for the tools and they just don't have them to replace just the rear parts even though it's just a housing bolted onto the tranny. I still made him print me the microfiche with the wear item price tags. I also got a part number sheet.

So how common and easy is it to replace the rear bearing at $22.50 or the whole gear setup inside this housing on a 09 c300 4matic?

How's your Giubo? if it has cracks in it, it will make noise. They're a wear and tear item and are easily replaced.
What was the diagnosis of the noise and who did? If your car is out or of warranty, do yourself a favour and find a competent indy mechanic. Going to the dealer for anything out of warranty is a process if throwing money away in most cases.

It's fine. I've been building cars and bikes for years, I know it's in the rear housing. The noise is not the giubo.

I wonder whether you can find a rear housing at a wrecker ? . There must be lots of 204 gearboxes that have failed totally at the torque convertor end & would be perfectly OK at the rear.

Just make sure it has not been affected my metal in the oil.

What is the purpose of splined parts #10, #20 & #30?

$720 seems a bit rich for part #20.

It sounds more like the $26 bearing to me.

MB Car Wrecker ?

What sort of treatment & mileage has the car done ?
