Comand online in a pre facelift
Relating to my last posting in this thread https://mbworld.org/forums/c-class-w...ml#post6413167 the first impressions of a running "NTG4.5/II Comand HU - Comand NTG4 screen unit" combo with enabled AMG Performance Media in a 204 pre facelift.

how did you do the ntg 4 to 4.5 conversion if you don't mind me asking? I've been dying to find a way to do this. are you selling units or able to sell a head unit with the faceplate modified and the converter hooked up so the flip up screen works with the head unit?

@theonidis
Thank you.
@rmt52
As I mentioned several times in my postings, the main problem is to make the NTG4.5 HU compatible to NTG4 flip screen unit due to different LVDS. I realized this by a DIY converter.
Very very important, the HU has to be a legal, non stolen one. Otherwise it's impossible to type in the anti theft pin. The Navi activation pin has to be generated. MB is unable to do that coding stuff. You need someone with SD developer resp. Vediamo.
A legal used ECE and US NTG4.5 HU directly sold by MB Germany is about 1750$. Don't you think it's cheaper to buy one in the US? To shorten the faceplate is not that big thing. Shure, I could do a converter for you if you want to upgrade.
Thank you.

Hi Minuszeit. Thanks for getting back to me so quickly.
1) yes, I saw that you mentioned this even in your posts on the speedometer thread. would be great if I could buy the converter. pm the price/details to get one from you.
2) I have a sd c4 system and vediamo. are you saying I'd need to do the coding with a legal one that has the anti theft pin, or that if I bought one and it turned out to be stolen that the only way to activate it would be through sd?
3) how can I shorten the faceplate? are you able to sell a replacement faceplate that's been modified?
thanks again. much appreciated.

1) Ok, we can talk about that via PN.
2) A stolen headunit with its serial no that is registered as stolen one is... frozen. After connecting such a HU there is no way to activate it. In general, the code has to be typed in via SD. And that register card in SD/Vediamo is dead, grey, not selectable.
3) Take a look at the pics. The "magic" line is on the back of the faceplate.
4) The part no. of my HU doesn't make sense to you. I have European ECE version, you need the US version.

I guess what I was asking was, is it a 212 head unit or a 204. That's why I was asking about part number.
What did you use to get a straight clean cut through the faceplate?

It's a 212 HU.
When using a 204 HU you have to cut the faceplate 3x, left, right and the top.
Fix adhesive tape as guiding line on the front of the faceplate regarding to the cutting line you can recognize on the back and use an ordinary saw, nothing special. The final mm I cut of by using wet 800 grit sanding paper. Fix that sheet with adhesive tape on a glass panel or something like this an sand of the final mm by moving the faceplate on the sheet.

MBWorld Fanatic!
do you think it is worth the money to go from 4.0 to 4.5?
aside from the PO's you can upload in the navigation i haven't seen anything really new. looks great though!
i will update my NTG4.0 to the latest version from 2018. Maybe i see some more changes on that too
