is C350 worth the extra $$ over C300?
I'm looking to buy an 08 C350 with just over 40k miles and after reading a couple threads regarding a Kleeman tune it appears that both 300 and 350 have the same engine with the 300 being de-tuned from the factory. Apparently for $1200 the 300 will put out the same power as a 350. Does that mean that the 350 is maxed out or will a tune squeeze out a few more ponies? Also will a tune change the transmission response? My E63 was tuned and the difference in transmission alone was worth the cost of the tune, would love for it to make a similar difference in the C class. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

The 08 C350 has the 268 HP M272 3.5L engine, while the 08 C300 has the 228 HP M272 3.0L engine. The newer Direct Injected 3.5L M276 engine was introduced in 2012 for the C350 and 2013 for the C300. The M276 is mechanically identical in both C300 and C350, but the C300 is detuned for lower output. M276 C300 has 248 hp and M276 C350 has 302 hp. The M276 is believed to be able to achieve 315 hp to the crank with a tune
I believe you will be able to achieve almost 290 hp to the crank in the 2008 C350 with the M272 engine and a tune.
If I had the M276 C300, I would most definitely spend $1200 for such a drastic improvement, and maybe even for the M276 and M272 C350. I wouldn't be able to justify more than $500 for a tune on my M272 C300 though. I'm sure powerband isn't the only thing that's affected by a tune. You will have to use the search function on the forums, or even google for a few minutes.

To be honest the difference between a C300 and C350 won't even be $1200. I personally would rather have the more powerful engine, and I'm pretty sure you would too coming from an E63.

going back to my purchase I would of just spent the 10-15k more and got a C63 lol. I find the resale value of C300 to be the best so if you only plan to have it a little while get that.

As a former Jeep Wrangler owner (which isn't saying much), the C350 to me feels like absolute beast to this day. I've had courtesy C300's from the dealer, and to me, it doesn't feel like they're on the same level. In S mode, the 300 feels like the C350 in economy. I might be wrong, but I also think a lot of features that are options on the C300 are standard on the C350.

C250s are more fun to drive than C300s. Between the two, C350 is a no brainer.

Driven multiple versions of all 3 and the c300 is easily the most boring driver of them all. 350 wins by a wide margin as the most fun and a true performance car. 250 is light and agile and overall a more fun drive in my opinion. To each their own. For the OP the 350 is worth every cent!

I agree, the dinky little 4 banger in the C250 is punchy the first second or two you press the gas, but afterwards, the engine feel and sound leave me wanting more. The V6 is smooth and sounds great with an Xpipe. They are on different levels. Same rule applies to V8's vs V6's. S550 V8 feels so smooth and sounds amazing.

Thanks for the replies but I bitt the bullet and bought a 13 E63. Quite a price jump but well worth it. The C was planned to be temporary transportation but after seeing and driving the 63 I simply couldn't resist, life's too short for "i'll get it later".

Congrats OP! Quite a jump indeed. Personally I can't wait to be established enough to have that attitude.

I'm wondering why C300 with same engine as C350 could be boring. Both car has same suspension, transmission, front end and basically same weight. Having 248hp vs. 302hp doesn't make it boring.
My 2 cents!

The M276 in a C300 really wakes up if you put in for the Kleemann tune. 3-series beemers and Audi A4's are no contest now...hehehe...
I think that I will be looking at the KW DDC for the mountain fun...

2013 c300
So I have a 2013 c300 the face-lift model. I was thinking of just buying an ecu from a 2013 c350 and putting it in my c300 same engine. Why wouldn't that work. And it shouldn't de tune my 3.5
