I have been reading over some threads with not a clear direction on how to do a map update at a reasonable cost. I have Comand 4.5. If purchased at a dealership, what is the expected cost and would it be the same across most MB dealers? Other suggestions would be great too! (tried eBay, nothing seen).

it's a usb memory stick with the new 2015 maps on it.
you plug it in your usb connection in your glove box.
for 2012 c300 I updated my c300 the other day takes around 90 minutes.
first plug it in your glove box turn the car on turn on your navigation NOW PRESS CENTER COMMAND KNOB AND BACK AND CLEAR BUTTON ALL AT THE SAME TIME.
IT WILL SHOW THE SCREEN WITH PRESENT SW AND HARDWARE VERSION.
AT THE BOTTOM YOU WILL CENTER OPTION TO UPDATE YOUR NAV PRESS FOR UPDATE 2 TIMES TO CONFIRM AND IT WILL START THE UPDATING.
take picture of present software version before you update. when your done with the new map update it should see E10 at the end of the new software version by once again pushing down [LIKE KEYBOARD KEY] the center command knob in the middle and clear and back button all at the same time .
the nav has to be on first . you should now see E10 at the end of the software version if you do then you're all set with the new maps.
the maps were released in march of 2015.
the cheapest I seen on the internet was 211.00 dollars
this is for all 2012 guys since there's absolutely no information out their for us guys .

Weird. I though that the Map Update came via DVD not a usb?
And odd enough I have a 2012 LCI with NTG4.5 and I have a USB slot in my center armrest, and for me to do a Navigation Map Update, I needed a Mercedes 2015 Map DVD with a specific code for the vin.

i have audio 20 with nav.
non hk stereo .
I also have usb in armrest and usb in glovebox.
No I have the built in factory navigation just don't have the hk in my car

There are two systems available. There is COMAND hard drive based navigation (7" screen) and Map Pilot (uses the 5" screen) and has a black box in the glovebox.
Ok this makes absolutely no sense.
First you said you have Audio 20 with Navigation,
Now you say you have COMMAND but with out HK.
Audio 20 and COMMAND are two completely different systems.
Audio 20 has a 7" screen which uses a Garmin SD card based Navigation system.
COMMAND has the 8.4" screen which uses the navigation from a Hard Drive based system.
Audio 20 with Garmin can be upgraded via USB, but the COMMAND system and it doesn't matter if you have the HK upgrade or not, that won't make a difference, will always use a DVD for a Map Update. That DVD is cheap, but getting a code that is directly linked to your VIN is the most expensive part.

You just have Audio 20 with the Accessory Nav which is called UMI (Universal Medial Interface)
Thus meaning you can update your NAV with the USB, but if you have COMMAND, that means you would need command DVDs, and a code which is linked to your VIN.

my mistake making the comment that I have command .
I did mention earlier that I have audio 20.
I have command and HK on my other Mercedes.
Does anyone have information on updating my navigation to European maps? i will be shipping my vehicle to England from Illinois and would like to still be able to use the navi.

I believe it is just the same procedure outlined above (whichever is applicable to your vehicle) but with the european maps.
@tekfoc - Thanks for the detailed instructions for installing the USB maps update. Are the setup instructions the same for installing the SD drive maps update? My dealer says that my care requires an SD drive update, not the USB or DVD updates. Thanks for the great info!

instructions are located with the sd map package when you purchase it.
should be very similar.
