Transmission ?

So I have 2010 C300 4matic with 85K miles. The transfer case bearing is grinding I know I have to replace the transmission. Here is the big question I know this fixed this problem in later models, so would I be able to put a transmission from a 2012 in place? Everything looks the same as far as I can see. Any help is appreciated Thanks in advance. On a side not I should of never traded my CLK320 for this thing it's been a headache

try just replace the bearing, that's what I did. Whole replacement of transmission is so expansive, man..

I'm not replacing it myself and the shop says they can't replace the bearing because the transmission is sealed. I found a transmission out of a 2012 with 32k miles for $1100 and I heard that they fixed the issue in the newer transmissions.

Not sure if it works this way.. But if the transmission fits exactly the same specifications, I can't see why it wouldn't. But only $1100? really? Sounds like a part out of an accident car or something.
I heard it's better to fix your own transmission instead of replace the whole with used one. It's like organ transplant, something it will reject and causing more issues. But I am not expert on this, sorry I can't be more helpful.

For only $1K I would give it a shot. Was your transmission serviced at around 40K?
Starting sometime in MY11 the 7G-TRONIC+ was introduced in all NA C300 (VIN Code A89). Maybe someone else can comment if this would fit in an older one. Transmission failures do appear rarer in later MY W204 C300.

How do you know the transfer case problem has been fixed in later model C-300's? Has Mercedes changed anything with these transfer cases or the bearings? If so, what year did they fix it? My 2008 C-300 just had the transfer case problem and I am wondering if it is safe to buy a 2016 C-300 if the problem has been fixed. It took my transfer case eight years to fail, so maybe that is why more time is needed to see what happens to the newer C-300's?

We don't know for sure, but we're assuming Mercedes addressed the known issue when the 7G-tronic + debuted.

From what I understand they changed the transfer case housing and put a stronger tapered roller bearing and race in the 7G+
