Auto Lamp Function Inoperative Error

My wife's 2009 C300 got this error Auto Lamp Function Inoperative - Wiper stop working and DRL is always on even though it was disabled. Wiper will only turn on if you switch it on before you start the car but you won't be able to turn if off with out shutting the car off. I have a mechanic friend scan the car with a Snap On Verus and couple codes came up

U115300 - Communication with the Windshield wiper has a malfunction
U023100 - communication with the Rain light sensor has a malfunction.

anyone had this problem before .. any quick DIY fixed or is it Dealer Time.

Thank you

I actually got this error when I was trying to install the illuminated star on my w204. If a 2009 and 2013 are identical then go check your fuse box which is located on the driver side at the very top under the hood. It should have a cover with 2 clamps on it. It is easy to take off and reveal the fuses. There will be a bunch of fuses and three wires coming from somewhere else in the car. There will be red, white/grey, and brown wires connected on the left side of the fusebox. I believe the brown wire is ground. If you mess with the red wire it might bring up your check engine light on (I know this because when I was trying to connect the illuminated star power wire to it my check engine light came on). The white/grey wire should be the wire that has to do with the lights. When I tried to connect the power wire from the illuminated star to this white/grey wire I got the Auto Lamp Function Inoperative. When I put it back in its default state the errors where gone. I would suggest checking that wire and seeing maybe if its broken or something. If there is a different problem probably best just to take it to the dealer.

I am having this exact same problem. The wipers won't turn on if the headlights are on. Note: You can shut off the day running lights by using the steering wheel options. Then the wipers turn on, but if I turn on the headlights, the wipers won't turn off. This is a huge problem, because if I am driving and it begins raining in the dark, the wipers won't turn on unless I quickly turn off the lights. Does anyone have a solution to this issue??? I also have the Auto head Lamp Function Inoperative.

I got this error a few times but every time worked except the headlights curve feature.

I cleaned the windshield and it went away, my car was filthy and had lots of dirt covering the sensors.

Hasn't come back since oven been cleaning the car more often.

Really? I have already washed the car, since this happened. The car was in storage four summer, as I only use it in winter. I will try this, but I am thinking it could be the rain sensor. But honestly, when I drive around with the headlights off in the day time, the auto wipers seem to work fine... I just can't turn the wipers on or off when the headlights are on. So that means lights have to be off and I can operate the wipers, but if I then turn on the lights... The wipers won't turn off when I switch them off....? I also have the auto lamp inoperative error on the dash. Ill try cleaning it, but do you have any other suggestions???

I tried to scan the car with 2 different scanners multiple times and no codes would come up even with the error message. I looked into it and was going to replace the sensor at the top of the windshield but its been a while and it hast come back yet so no point. I noticed it the first time when they replace my headlight and headlight computer, i told them about it but the problem won't replicate. I have 25 year warranty so if it comes back for good, ill take it to them to figure out lol. the curse of the DUCK!!!

Ya know Marko, this error is made worse if you run into a duck...or a geese, or whatever you ran into

Well if you go post what they find, I guess I've been lucky to have no issues again.
