Any tricks on replacing a W204 battery?
I want to replace the battery on my 2012 C350. When I was picking up a battery for my son's Ford at Advance Auto, I mentioned this to the guy there and he said I can't do it myself. He claims that the MB needs to have voltage running to it and that if I remove the old battery and put in the new (like I've done in all other vehicles) that it will need to be taken to the dealer to be "reset." Is this true? I was hoping it was as simple as the older American cars I've worked on. I did a search and don't see this already answered, so apologies if this is a common question.

Not true.
Remove old battery and replace with new one.
You may have to reset some of your settings in the car like radio presets ect.
Took me 10 minutes to change my battery.

Oh, I did buy one of those devices that plugs a 9V battery into your cigarette lighter to "save" your car's presets when the battery is disconnected. Was about $8 and was a complete waste of $8 so don't buy one.
Did not work worth a damn so I returned it.

I think the reason your gadget that plugs into the cigarette lighted didn't work is because the lighter is not powered when the ignition is off and key removed.

You may be right!
I did not try that thing in the outlet in the glove box, just the cigarette lighter receptacle.
Cig lighters worked in all my other cars when the car is not running so I assumed the same for my C230.

Thanks all. Some google searches talked about "some newer BMW/MBs" need to have the battery registered with the car so that it doesn't try to overcharge a newer battery, basically saying that the car is programmed the type/age/etc of the battery. But from the comments here, and other searches, it sounds like I was hoping...just disconnect, replace, connect. Thanks again!
Now to decide if I want to go OEM or try the Exide that someone else just recently posted. But that'll be a flip of the coin.

If price is not too much of a concern I really Like Odyssey or NorthStar batteries. Same company.
When I was looking for a good battery I googled Exide and found a lot of unfavourable reviews.

Walmart's EverStart Maxx batteries works just fine.
- 5 Year Warranty Program (3 Years Free Replacement + 2 Years Prorated)
- 790 CCA (Cold Cranking Amps)
- $150.13†

Mine's a Duralast Gold from Autozone. 14k miles so far.
I read some posts stating that they had problems after installation. To have a smooth battery replacement, I just hooked a 12v 9a battery while disconnecting.

I swapped out the battery in my wife's C300 with a Bosch AGM and there were no issues

Dealer wants $310 to replace my battery in my 2014. My complaint was that eco start/stop hardly functions anymore and sometimes is unavailable altogether. I thought this system was ran by the aux battery in the trunk, but they insist the can't proceed with diagnosis until I pay the $310 to replace the under hood battery.

1. A 2 year old battery should not fail.
2. They should load test your battery. They are the dealer with all the diagnostic equipment.
3. Why can't they pull a battery out of another car that has no symptoms.
4.If you do buy a new battery make sure you replace the old one if it turns out to be OK & sell the new one.
5.They are ripping you off. See the recent posts re battery prices.
The best of bleeding luck.

Agree with Carsy, them charging you upfront without even testing your battery is stupid and a 2-3 year old battery should really be ok unless you are Minnesota or Arizona. I just replaced my wife's 11's battery after 6 years of service. You can take your battery out and take it to either Pep Boys or Autozone for a free check.

2 years old car battery should cover under warranty or road side assistance. I call dealer for my 2011 c300 and they give me a discount for $137 brand new battery. Much better than the one i buy on ebay that i had to return it.
Easy to install. Watch some youtube. 12mm socket i think.....

Plot twist.
I bought the car used with 24k miles back in May 2016. The car has never had issues with electronics, except for the eco start/stop being weird when it is really cold out. I said the same thing - the car has 37.5k miles, no other electronic issues, can't you pro-rate a battery?
The car has an aftermarket battery already. Not sure what happened it is early life to ruin the original battery. But all of this is beside the point, really. Is the eco start/stop not ran exclusively from the aux battery?
