Seat Cover Attachment?

I have some tearing of the "leather" on the side bolster of the bottom driver's seat cushion, so I ordered a new OEM cover that'll be here today. I was hoping to attack this project this weekend, but wanted to see if anyone knew if I needed any special tools to remove/replace the seat cover. I know for some older cars they are held on with hog rings, and hog ring pliers come in handy removing/replacing them.

I found a few tutorials for some older MBs that didn't need anything special, but was hoping maybe someone had had a W204s seats out of the car and noticed.

EDIT: Found this thread I had ignored due to the vague title.

Same thing happened to me a few years ago. I took it to an upholsterer who replaced the panel that was tearing. And then it happened all over again in the same spot not even a few months later.

I'm thinking of getting a new cover like you rather than take it to the upholsterer again. How much did it cost you?

No special tools needed. Just a white rubber mallet and that is all. The seat cover is secured via a channel clip around the bottom of the seat cushion. Just take your time prying it out and be careful not to bend the metal portion of the seat. After you take it out just reverse the process and a few wingle here and there and you will be set. I paid $290 CAD for the seat cover bought at the dealership.

One other thing. You do not need to remove the entire seat to change the bottom cover. There will be two clamps in front of the seat which you will just need to unscrew and just lift up the cushion and unplug the harness. Just make sure to disconnect the negative battery terminal first before you unplug anything down there.

I had tears in the upper side bolster, and brought it to an upholsterer to replace the panel. He charged me $200, versus $450(?) I think for the upper cover. He wanted another $200 to repair the lower cover, but a new one was $250/shipped, so I just went that route. This is for the MBTex version; the real leather cover is more. Non-heated seats are cheaper, I think.

Unfortunately, FedEx seems to have "misplaced" mine; the driver's out trying to remember where he left it as we speak, because it sure wasn't my house.

Good tips, thanks!

Update: I ordered the wrong cover. No big deal, just be sure when you order you confirm via your VIN. The one I needed was actually $270. Hopefully will be here by next weekend.
