Aftermarket Blind Spot Detection Kit DIY - Brandmotion RDBS-1400
I just came across this Blind Spot Detection Kit online from Brandmotion, the RDBS-1400. $730. I am thinking about going for it.
There is no bumper drilling needed (only removal) and maybe cutting the two front speaker (tweeter) covers to install the HMI display (indicators). (The covers are only $20 each, so not bad)
They sell mounting brackets for a few cars, including the 2014 C-class (with install instructions). Sadly there is no bracket for my 2011 C300 however, there is a universal bracket. $49
The universal kit (install instructions and owners guide below)
http://www.brandmotion.com/docs/RDBS-1400II1.pdf

The ECU
The HMI display (indicators)
The radar sensors
The 2014 c-class mounting bracket RDBS-1440
The universal mounting bracket RDBS-1405
http://www.brandmotion.com/docs/RDBS-1405II1.pdf
Possible sensor install location on my 2011 C300.
More to come soon....

I think it's interesting but for that kind of money I'd rather get a remote start or put it into payments, or a tune.

Personally, I would not pay $700 for this... not even $200, to be honest.
First of all, if you setup your side mirrors properly, you won't need this anyway.
But most of all, I am not sure how safe and reliable this is. This aftermarket blind spot assist can you put in real trouble, if you count too much on it. Even Mercedes built-in system isn't reliable enough and should only be used as an aid, as Mercedes advises. What to say about an aftermarket product?
"Active Blind Spot Assist is only an aid and is not a substitute for attentive driving.
Active Blind Spot Assist does not react to vehicles:
- overtaking too closely on the side, placing them in the blind spot area
- if the difference in the speed of approach and overtaking is too great
As a result, Active Blind Spot Assist may neither give warnings nor intervene in such situations. There is a risk of an accident.
Always pay careful attention to the traffic situation and maintain a safe distance at the side of the vehicle."
If this system isn't reliable and I have to pay so much attention to the traffic, why would I need this blind spot assist in the first place?
