Aluminum vs. Steel hood
I'm shopping for a new hood and I have an option of buying an aluminum hood for extra $100. Would you guys go aluminum hood to lose some weight or stick with steel for durability?

get a c63 look hood, only $700 LOL anyways idk but I would put carbon fiber as I’m in the market for one but I don’t want hood pins

Funny you mentioned that because I was actually comparing two C63 style hoods that were aluminum and steel. I definitely like the look of the C63 style hood, but I can't decide on material...

The oem composite hood on my ZO6 weighed 26 pounds. I replaced it with a carbon fiber hood weighting 13 pounds.
If weight is an issue, carbon fiber is the answer.

There's a weight advantage for aluminum, but also think about something else.. If you live in a climate that sees snow and/or salt, you'll likely also see eventual paint chips on the front edge of the hood. If it's still, those can rust. I'd definitely pay the extra 100 just keeping that in mind

honestly who cares about weight if your getting one that’s nice. Well I kind care but try seeing which one won’t ding easily. Pain in the *** to see dings happen!

I just contacted the seller and they told me the STEEL weighs 151 lbs and the ALUMINUM weighs 30 lbs, which is a huge difference! I think I'll pull the trigger on this aluminum. I live in DC/VA area and we don't see much snow and I drive my wife's Audi in the snow anyway.
