Excessive vibration in drive/vehicle stopped?
I believe I'm not losing my mind, but when my vehicle is stopped and the transmission is in D, I feel a bit more vibration than usual. This isn't nearly as bad as people may think, but it's enough to make me shift the tranny to neutral when I'm stopped. There are no other symptoms and I cannot stress this enough.
I know my transmission mount and engine mount are covered by EDW but I have a hard time figuring out what is excessive. I know it's not nearly as smooth at idle/car in drive as when the car is new, but that is to be expected. Just looking for a sanity check here. How much vibration does your car have when in drive/not moving?

You know, mine vibrates a bit more than I'd expect as well but I don't have a baseline. That said, I also haven't put my eyes on the mounts yet so they could be destroyed for all I know. At this point I'm just planning on replacing them at some point since they won't break the bank, but 6 years/40k miles seems awfully low for a mount's lifespan. I'm curious to hear what others have to say.

You can perform a very simple test to figure out if it's the mounts. Open the hood, turn the car on and have someone you trust put the car in D, apply the brakes all the way, and then blip the throttle and watch to see if the engine jumps/shakes excessively. If it does, then it's the mounts.
I ran into a similar problem last year, and did this test and the engine did not jump/shake as much so the mechanic then did something similar with the transmission mount and he deemed it worn. As soon as I replaced it, the car felt brand new again. so so smooth!

It sounds like the mounts. Mine was terrible and I replaced the transmission mount only (because the engine mounts are much more expensive) and most of the time the problem is barely noticeable now. However, sometimes the vibrations are excessive especially when the AC blows at full power. I know the engine mounts have to be replaced.

...forgot to update yesterday, but I spent a few minutes in the parking lot after arriving the office yesterday and found that...
while standing still, I see no noticeable difference between Drive and Neutral, but I do notice a slight increase in overall vibration sitting in Reverse.

I say its a mercedes thing, specially when cold, mine vibrates when in drive and holding the brake then the vibrations reduce when warmed up but still present. I noticed this when I first got my cars years ago and over 100k later, it never got worse. I drove a few mercedes along with same year c300 as mine and it had the same vibration. They all do it.

Mine is also 4matic. I was afraid it was a "that's the way it is" thing. I'll probably still do the mounts at some point since mine at least feels excessive. I'll report back with the results when I do!
