C300 Overheating (Only) when Idling?

I have a 2013 C300 Sport with roughly 45k miles. I noticed a few months ago that the fan was kicking into a much higher speed than ever before when I would idle for more than 30-60 seconds. Recently I have noticed my temperature gauge start to climb if I idle for long enough. At least 3 times it reached the red zone and I had to immediately turn on the heat and/or shut it off. It has NEVER overheated when moving, and once if it is overheating when idling, moving always instantly drops the temperature. Normally I;d say the fan wasn't kicking on, but its obvious it is. This has gotten to the point that I can't even go through there car wash anymore because it will overheat before I get out.

I'm thinking it's a thermostat, but I want to get some opinions before I "try it" considering it's $175.

Other notes: No recent work has been done to the coolant system so I can't imagine it's are in the system. Coolant levels are reading normal.

I don't think it's thermostat.

Also if you do it yourself it's $60

Do you have a suggestion what it might be then? And where are you finding it for $60? Is that an aftermarket part? Cheapest OEM I could find was at FCP Euro for $175.

Not seeing $60 either, but - that site/dealer seems to have decent pricing relative to others.

I'll have to check where I got it from, I thought it was FCP. I did not buy OEM, but I did buy the brand that makes OEM (like Bosch) I'm pretty sure. I'll see if I can find it later.

I'm more concerned with making sure it's the thermostat rather than the pricing. You said you don't that's the issue - why?

Sounds more like a fan problem.....only speed you see is "A/C On" range ?..letting car idle you see a temp increase and Max speed Fan will eventually kick in ?
