C300 4matic
I have a 2011 C300 4matic with 116K miles on it. I am the second owner, I purchased it as a certified preowned. As I do all the work on my car minus the transmission fluid change, I would look for documentation. If the owner did the oil change on time, the trans fluid change, and if the brakes and fluid also were taken care of. I use the car as mu daily driver and find the car to be very reliable. Other than the usual oil, tires, and keeping it clean I feel this car can go to 300K with proper attention to detail.

Agreed. Proper and timely maintenance is key.

Mine is also 2011 bought new. It's just passed 50K miles. No issues so far. I stick to the service time every year. A few times skipped recommended service, only do the oil change to save a few $s. 95% services are done at dealers.

2008 C350 Sport 4Matic Swap
2008 here purchased with 120 000km and I've been through a lot with this car. 240 000km now and you wouldn't be able to tell the mileage unless you looked at the odometer. Everything still works great and is still stock other then wear and tear parts. If you are buying a 4matic model, have the transfer case bearing checked for any noise since its a pretty common problem and also, look into a Electric Steering Lock Emulator. This ESL is a guaranty to fail with these cars so it better to just remove it as soon as you get the car before it leaves you stranded and much harder to change if it locks you out. Other those issues, these are excellent cars and one of the most reliable mercedes made in recent time.

I used to consider reliability as #1 factor when buy new cars, never thought about getting ANY European cars, always have Japanese cars, until 2011.
I noticed C-Class was rated "average" is I remember it correctly. i gave it a try so far no regrets.

According to CR, MB reliability is below BMW. S-Class might be the lowest reliable cars over many years and CR does not recommend it. However, I am buying one model, not the entire brand.

No way in my mind is BMW more reliable than Mercedes, at least what I have seen in real life.

Especially the 3 series crap vs the W204.

People here know my take on direct injection. IMO the 2012 C300 is best. Facelifted, and still port fuel injected, but if people want to take on direct injection and HPFP failures and what not, MB seems to have nailed it in the DI engines, versus BMW engines are PLAGUED with hpfp failures, injector failures, and carbon buildup as well.

w2010 w204 c300 amg sports package
be aware of the common issues and faults
do some research and find out what to expect
do not let the maintenance cost fool you
it cost about the same to maintain any car .....that's truth
unless your servicing your car yourself ..thats the best way to save on maintenance
MOST IMPORTANT MAKES SURE IF BUY A 2ND HAND MERC..GET WARRANTY..EXTENDED WARRANTY..IT'LL BE WORTH IT IN THE LONG RUN
and as long as you do regular checks , know what to check for, regular service, preventative maintenance as i call it..you will be ok
however i would suggest get one with some options like sat nav, electric seats , hk system , multimedia interface and some extras..if it has the amg sports package even better, that way you have a sleeker looking car, not to be confused with real amg
if its done over 60,000 gotta check tran oil if its been done..or else you will need to do that trans service... check for leaks , smell if the engine has a burning smell check pcv oil seperator and cam plug and brake vacuum pump
all of these are common issues and faults

You can't judge a model by the brand. Or even a 'class', when it comes to reliability. For the w204 reliability was good in the beginning 2008, and great by the end 2014.
Check real world stats from owners crowdsourcing their own repairs into a large database .. Truedelta dot com. 2012, 2013 and especially 2014 models get good/exceptional ratings. Reliability was a huge part of the buying decision for me.
