I sent my car to the dealership for the 7yr maintenance (Service A) about 10 days ago. Yesterday I checked the dipstick and noticed that the oil was overfilled. Today I measured a few times following the manual and got the same result. The oil level is clearly above the max mark and by about 1/4 inch.

Should I worry? I googled online. Some said it is not a big deal while some said it is serious. I think I'd better ask question on this MB forum. The car is just outside the extended warranty period.

If I need to drain some oil out, will an extractor pump work, such as the following one on amazon?

You had the dealer do the service, bring it back to them to correct the issue. Explain to them and tell them you are worried about the oil level, the dealer will most likely pump out the extra oil then you good to go but if not tell them if anything happens with the motor they will be liable. Why spend the extra money for something that is not your mistake. I mean you can get the pump if you plan to do work on your own car and such.

That is the pump, I got a similar one, works like a charm, you can change oil and filter in church clothes.

Get it fixed

Overfilling (in a good amount) is as worse as under-filling your oil. If we are talking about just a notch above the max dipstick, I wouldn't worry about it too much. 1/4" more, I'd be losing sleep.

I just called the dealership. They swore that the oil level is good and wouldn't cause a problem (well, if a problem does surface, they will surely blame it on something else). They also said that there would be additional charge for draining oil out. What a rip-off, given that they already charged $300 for a crappy Service A!

So I am trying to decide on whether 1/4" is too much to take or it is still within the buffer that engine can operate normally. In your opinion, is 1/4" too much?

Another factor I am considering is that I will go for a W206 when the new model comes out in Sep 2019 (hopefully). Current model is 2012, although it has been running well.

Out of curiosity, did you measure your oil hot or cold? Reason why I ask is measuring your oil while the engine is running, or immediately after shutting down would yield a lower mark on the dipstick. Maybe the dealer measured it while the engine was warm? Some manufacturers actually recommend on measuring hot (I don't know if Mercedes does), but regardless...whenever I fill oil, I tend to go to the max mark on COLD just to be safe.

I would speak to the Service Manager and demand that they fix it. I'm so personally tired of the "the best or nothing" crap when they don't live up to it. You should not go out of pocket on this. Speak to the service manager, and if they give you grief, then you absolutely should email MBUSA.

It says all over the manual "DO NOT OVERFILL" for a reason.

Let me put it to you this way. When I did my own oil change and I was about 1/4" over, it was about 3/4 of a liter. That's a lot.

I measured it according to what the manual says. Shut off the engine, wait for 5 minutes, and then measure (wipe and measure).

Which is certainly alright. You can use the oil extractor for subsequent uses (make sure you get the appropriate adapter too for full oil changes). Mercedes Benz fuc**** up every single oil change despite repeated notes in all of my oil changes to NOT OVERFILL. What did they do every single time? Overfill, and once, they underfilled by a liter.

Since then, I have done all of my oil changes myself. I've got it down to a friggin science
