The correct H7 bulbs are 55 watts.
Those 80 watt bulbs will generate more heat than the 55 watt bulbs and might damage your headlamps.

IDC if they're illegal, I'll just aim them down more.

Some people say they run 100W fine, I'm confused.

The point was whiter light with higher output.

My friend has some halogens which are whitish/blue and great output but we can't find the Osram model.

I'll just use them for high beams then.

I might create a youtube channel and create a video if it works well.

55W to 80W is only a 25W difference - significant, but it seems like only those going from 35W housings to 100W
have melting problems.
I can be the guinea pig. Otherwise it gives me an excuse to get those new w205 style headlights lol.

Go to this site: https://store.candlepower.com/

They have a large selection of bulbs, but the thing about this site is that they are very knowledgeable about their products. They have the following bulbs: The Vosla H7 +100, German Vosla H7 +120 bulb, Osram NightBreaker "Unlimited" Ultra High Output +110% H7 , The Philips Xtreme Vision lamps. I use the Osram and they work great. Take a look and e-mail them they respond and answer your question I have used them for years.Nelson

Thanks. Yea i took a look at various forums and what not, literally have spent hours and hours over the course of a few weeks; I'll have to review what they have but I remember people saying the volta was not as good as the one it replaced. The reviews of the bulbs didn't always seem appealing, although there's only so much you can do with halogens anyways.

Can I talk about the LED bulbs a little?
I tried one pair of H7 LEDs found the right side was okay but left side had a bad beam pattern with some blind spot. The LED I tried is two sided (two LED chips per bulb).
I found there are '360 degree" LED bulbs, three even four sided LED chips. I wonder if they are close to 'perfect', non-blind spot, halogen like beam patterns. Physically the LED chips are placed around the center, not like halogen filament which is in the center.

I have to try to see the result. It could be a waste of money.

Couldn't bring myself to drill holes in the cover for LEDs.

With HID atleast the hole is covered.

I'll let y'all know how this goes.

With the LED set I tried, no need to drill holes. There is enough room inside. With HID I believe I have to drill holes, the only reason I decided not to go that route.

You should drill cause they heat up a lot, but it depends the type you get.
There are ones that heat up less but have less output.

Good point thanks. Although LED is much high efficient, I need to measure its operating temperature inside the housing. I can stick a thermal couple inside and touch the hot spot, run the light until it reaches the equilibrium point. Hope it is cooler than the halogen, and it should be. With 55W halogen bulb, most energy turns into heat. With similar wattage LED, most energy turns into lumen.

That would make sense in theory, but there's a reason why they all come with fans or heat sinks attached :P

Normally they do run cooler but I don't know if it's the same case for these.

LED chip does get very hot itself but everywhere else is not. Fan is to bring the heat out and distribute it evenly, not to burn the chip, typically 150 degree C max rating.
I will try to run a quick test this weekend, halogen vs LED. In car test is difficult. I will find an enclosure kind of similar to the headlight housing.

Well I just got my bulbs in the mail and popped them in. I think we might have a winner!

I took several small video clips of OEM light output, bulb structure, color, light throw, Phillips Crystalvision bulb structure, Osram bulb structure, color, and now all that is left is to record the cutoff and nighttime visibility. Then I'll have to do a commentary to explain my results, although idk when I'll be able to get to that.

Initial thoughts: cool beans

I use Philips Crystalvison now, and wish they were brighter. They are not as bright as advertising on the package will lead you to believe.

Tonight we shall find out how good the output is and what the cutoff looks like

Once that is done I can put everything together and come to a conclusion

Hopefully it does not fail me

SUCCESS.

I don't want to spoil too much yet but here's a little teaser.

Looks good but I've put LED bulbs in headlight for other cars and their as bright as any halogen you can find, if not better. They don't generate heat which is good for the head lights. When I replaced my headlight lenses , they had hot spots from my xenons after 200k, led will never fade the plastic. If I didn't have xenons, I would definitely op for LED's instead.

I briefly tested the LED and a Halogen bulb in my work lab. Both driven with 12V. Since they were not in the headlight housing, I just very quickly glanced their lighting points. LED is brighter with less current draw but forgot to write them down. The noticeable difference is that with halogen bulb, my hand holding the bulb felt lots of heat. With LED, nothing.

Therefore, the only concern is how to find a true '360 degree' light beam LED bulb, or 'no shadow' light described by many Chinese manufacturers. Some 2 side chip design claims it is 360 degree, others have 3 or 4 sided chips. I can't try one by one to find a good set; it could waste money.
