Swap 4matic to rwd

Hey guys I was wondering if anyone has swapped their 4matic c class to rwd. What kind of work was put into it and troubles that you may faced.

New to MB so any info would be fantastic even If you haven't done it

Thanks

Just curious why

Also can't imagine it's much more than swapping the trans. There is probably coding for ABS and traction control, maybe just a module swap, idk.

I dont know if it would help or not but just been reading about the trans failure a lot with the 722.9 7speed auto. The transfer case and the design flaw that starves the TC bearings of oil causing the horrible sound.

If switching out everything and going to straight to rwd so the rear diff and getting rid of the TC all in all would avoid it
plus I enjoy rwd.

I dont know of what I'm thinking even makes sense or not
sorry
(should of just rwd to begin with)

No point in spending that money until it fails then

Yea I suppose that does make sense.
But is my thinking correct when it comes to getting rid of the TC? Like I said I'm new to MB brand and everything I keep reading is about that particular transmission. So would eliminating that get rid of the worry? I hear the trans part is good but the issue is with the TC and trans together?
I know its considered "1 unit" or is there a issue with that trans as well?

Considering I had to change out my transmission, yes it's all integrated 🙄 but only the TC is the problem

I considered the same thing too but, when it comes to resale or trading in, there might be problems.

Yea I would day most definitely. Guess I'll just be saving money until it goes bad and hopefully have enough to be able to just get it fixed.

thanks for the response!

You're welcome. Also, there's the chance that it will never happen, it seems less common than EIS/ESL failure so I wouldn't worry about it too much. But it is good to have some money on the side to prepare if it does happen, but this is with all vehicle repairs.

2008 C350 Sport 4Matic Swap
The transmission is the same on every mercedes, 722.9 is a 722.9. The 4matic Transfer case can bolt up the the rear of a rwd 722.9, or even an ML chain driver transfer case. Swapping to a RWd doesn't seem realistic since you would need a donor car. The oil pan and front differential is combined on the 4matic. You would need rwd oil pan, rwd front sub fram, full front rwd suspension( knuckle, hub, control arms) oh and the steering rack is also different. Unles you find a crashed rwd donor car and have the time,

I would just fix the transmission once it goes bad. If you are mechanically inclined to swap the 4matic to a rwd, then replacing failed TC bearings should be an easy job.
