Power Steering Malfunction, Brake (EBR, ABS, ESP Inoperative) Errors On C350 2009

I've read several threads but I did not find any answers on what the issues were and what was done. Yes, I realize it should be scanned it but I want to avoid the dealer. The indy shop will do so tomorrow but they don't have the STAR.

Here's The Overview:
2009 C350, Mileage about 118,000k

I start the car. No errors. As soon as I reach about 10 mile per hour, the warning lights come on back to back. The car seems to drives fine. It turns fine. The brake does feel off but I assume because ABS is off.
I do have a front tire sensor out but I can't see how that's related. If anyone has dealt with this issue, please comment. I will update once I have it identified - Thanks.

BRAKE ERROR (EBR, ABS, ESP Inoperative

Power Steering Malfunction

How old is your battery ? These cars have extremely sensitive computers so if there was a low voltage reading, it throws the whole system off,

Yes, internal fault in ESP control unit.

Error codes 5945, 5001, 5944, 7266

This seems to be a common issue Especially with first gen W204.

I wonder if there is a software update...

I've read that it could mean "brake pedal switch is faulty."

I decide to follow Jason's Process of Elimination. Trying to remove module but can't find the other screws? I was told there was 4. I can only find 2.

When I had this issue, I did take the module out to clean it and see if any solder points were cracked but nothing visually was wrong with the module.

Here is a step by step how to remove it. The low two screws can be a pain to remove and if you strip them, well let's say, you're not going to enjoy the outcome so use the proper T20 torx on the screws and be gentle.

You can also try this ;

The c63 section had some good info from what I remember since they also have issues because its the same part as our cars, although not as common. The c63's have a heat shield in front of it, I made my own little shield to prevent some heat getting to it as preventative although our v6's don't produce the same heat as a 6.2, I still rather be safe than sorry.

Like I said, I had this module fail on me when I first got the car but it was more of a glitch. I did all the things above and was about to swap it with a replacement one, ready to pay 250$ just to have a used one programmed + another 300$ for a used module but the lights went away and never came back, that was over 65k ago.

250k on the original module, yesterday we had an April snowfall and since I rushed to remove my studded winter so they don't wear out on dry pavement, summer tires + snow..Let'sjustt say, the ABS was working overtime and doing a great job saving my dumbass going out when I knew it was going to snow later on.

Thanks for info. So you reseated it and it seemed to correct itself?

How long did you leave it unplugged?

I left it unplugged overnight but again, none of these really fixed my issue. This just resolved itself and it was quite the coincidence when the lights didn't come on when I was going to get a used ESP module.

Evidently from what I've read from other forums, The ESP module is VIN specific but can be edited on an 09.

Others who have a newer make such as 2013 C250 have it locked even when using Mercedes scan tool(XENTRY).

New is running $500 to $600 for my car and as high as $1,600 for a 2013. Crazy!

Really ? From what I remember, its the same part for all w204s and even other Mercedes models share the same ESP module. My mechanic had to VIN code the new/used unit and my car is a 2008, they all require VIN programming, unfortunately, you are lucky if they charge you 250$ for just the programing.

It is the same part although part numbers have changed.

I'm going to check with the dealer. There maybe a software update.

Could the bad tire sensor be causing this? If it thinks the tire is low, then that would affect the ABS, barking, etc. Maybe that is what is causing those secondary codes. What is the air pressure reading in the tire with the bad sensor?

It seems logical. I ran a scan. Says localization failed via live stream. Not sure what that means. No errors with tire sensor.

Your original pictures showed the low tire pressure warning light on. Is that no longer on, yet you are still getting the same error messages in the display?

No Errors since new TPMS sensor.

I can’t confirm the tire shop put in the right values? So I went to the dealer today and have them check the tire pressure and we reset the monitor. No errors.

Perhaps time for new learning?

Unplugging the ESP might have reset it and then perhaps enough drive cycles to clear the codes. I did find a module for $75 so maybe I should buy it. A conundrum...

UPDATE

I spoke to a shop here that does SCN coding.

He says that Mercedes is preventing used modules from being recoded.

It's not clear if there is a cutoff date or if it's part specific.

I'm going to try. If it does not work, he's not going to charge me. Hopefully this works out.

Update Aprill 22 - Issue Resolved For Now

I disconnected the cable.

I sprayed
CRC Electronic Cleaner CRC Electronic Cleaner
on the plug and module pins.

I let sit for 10 minutes. I never took the module off.

Hooked everything back up. Still got the error message throughout the day doing errands

Started it this morning and no errors. Imagine my surprise.

Hopefully this is the last of it.

If you're dealing with this, patience is key.

No one wants to shell out $1,369 to the dealer.
