Is it time to get a new car?

I have a 2010 C300 4dr sport with 160k miles. Breaks needs to be replaced. Driver seats are ripping and needs replacing. There's a ding that needs to be repaired with $500 deductible. And I might have a power steering leak as my steering level is extremely low and steering making noise.

There is an 2014 E350 I found for $22k at 46k miles with lots of option but will now add an additional $300+ to my monthly expenditures.

My car has been pretty reliable so far. Never had a car this long and I'm really not sure how reliable it is going forward. Should I upgrade??

personally I love the look of the 14's thats the new body style. I'm sure you did your research on common problems in the forums. Try getting a E550 !!!! honestly the W204 is a gas hog when you look at the comparisons its pretty much the same for a newer E550 lol!

look at whats best for you from all angles. An extra $300 a month is a VERYYYY nice vacation every year.($3600). every 3 years you could buy a Rolex or something that holds value way better, that you can actually have for the rest of your life.

I will do more reseach on it thanks for the tip. Love the look of the e550 coupe but the e350 is not bad either.

$300 a month is definitely something i can use else where but I'm just concerned with my car with a lot of mileage on it breaking down sooner than later. New lower mileage car for piece of mind I'm hoping for the next 5 years like what my w204 have provided me til now. If that makes sense.

I had a 2009 C300 last year but also let it go due to similar problems. I think these cars can last well over 200k miles but they need alot of work but I dont think it becomes worth it at that price point. You can get a 2013 C300 W204 with around 60k miles on it for 11K.

Haha Yes it sound like a dumb decision that's why i need some input.

And no new car bug but mostly worried about this car breaking down. All my friends tell me to get rid of it before it's too late. 160k miles is kind of up there.

This is my dilema exactly. Also looked at several c300 but can't find one with similar package like mine. But i see a lot of E class coupe with similar options plus more. And i do like the coupe body style better.

When you say "breaking down" what do you have in mind? If you want it to be bullet proof for another 5 years, of course the chance is greater with a newer car with less miles than an older car with more miles. Thinsg like brakes, don't really count as that is a maintenance item you will have with either car. Same with the ripped seat and single door ding on a 9 year old car. That shouldn't factor into things at all, unless you are trying to talk yourself into something different. It is when you have to replace parts that are worn out is what I think you are concerned about. If you pay $300 for 5 years, that is $18K. That can pay for a lot of repairs. If the car has been well maintained I would think you can easily get another 5 years out of it with paying only a fraction of the $18K you would spend in that time on the newer car. If it is just dollar and cents, keep you current car. If you are paranoid about the car breaking down leaving you stranded and with a hefty repair bill he car you are looking at is already 5 years old and might be out of warranty, so there is no guarantee that will be trouble free. Sounds like you kind are trying to make the case for getting something different just for the sake of getting something different. Nothing wrong with that either.

Good luck whatever you decide.to do.

I love my w204 and wished it didn't have these much miles on it. But it's my daily so that was unavoidable. As someone mentioned earlier, getting that C207 will cost me $3600/ month extra which I can be used to pay for repairs. Your logic makes a lot of sense as well. And yes I'm afraid it will leave me stranded with hefty repair. I wanna be able to still drive 6 to 8 hour straight without worry. It would be nice to find another w204 with low miles with all the features I have now including coded for paddle shifters (I upgraded to a 2012 steering with shifters). I will never buy a car without them. But finding a w204 4 door that is coded for shifters is very slim. That is why I'm leaning towards that E class since it has everything I want plus more. But if I can keep my car knowing it won't break on me any time soon then it would be an easy decision.

Many subjective factors at work, but ... I would think you've gotten your money out of the W204, so why not try another car? I was tempted a while back by a E350 diesel. Seller claimed he got 38 mpg with it, would be interesting to try it and see what it's like ...

I LOVE the E350, E400 and E550 coupes starting with the 2010 design. I sometimes wish we had waiting to find one of those instead of the low mileage C250 coupe we got....I love the pillar less design if the windows and teh lines of the car on the side

Yup definitely love the E coupes design. I finally was able to test drive the 2014 E350 coupe and it felt a bit more on the lux side rather than sporty side. Love all the options it was equipped with but it had tan interior so I said no. Found another one with black interior from this Euro dealer with same options but also with cooled seat (whatever the right term is for that). They wanted to run some numbers first before letting me test drive. On top of that, they first offered me $200 for my car, then eventually got them to go up to $2500. I didn't have a great feeling at that dealer so I just walked away.

At this point, I'm really considering just keeping it if all I can get for it is $2500.

Well it sounds like I made the wrong decision in keeping the car. I may now have the dreaded ESL issue. Car won't start. Radio can be turned on manually. No headlights. No power windows unless I use the key IR outside. No AC. Can't navigate menu on the speedo. Jump start didn't help. New battery didn't help.

When my ESL died, there was no electrical available whatsoever - no radio, no windows, nothing

Also wow they gave you nothing for your car...I can get 10k easy but I'm also half the mileage

Invest $150 in an iCarsoft MBII scanner so you really know what your problems are. They are small and compact, and for the price, there's no excuse not to have one. I got one for each of my cars and keep them in the glove box or some other storage area.

Woukd this have detected if my problem was ESL? I ended up buying a battery first which didn't fix it. Had to change the esl motor which fixed it. Would've been nice to know sooner if it was in fact ESL.

Thank you. I was reading another thread which lead me to believe my issue was esl. Replaced my motor with a $10 motor from Amazon.

If there is a DTC for a failed ESL, then yes. It scans all installed modules.
