Adding HOLD function to Pre-Facelift W204 (08-11)

Does anyone how to add the brake "HOLD" function on pre-facelift w204 (08-11)?

I have retrofitted a color instrument cluster of 2013 FL W204 to my 2008 Pre-FL W204.

Got star C4 + Vediamo. What coding or hardware swap need to be done to get the HOLD function working? I made variant coding of the ABR module, and made HOLD to "ja". It didn't work.

Please help!!! Thanks a million!

Is there any professionals here that can help with the programming? I really want to enable the brake HOLD function on the pre-facelift w204 (08-11).

Thanks a lot in advance!!!

I don’t think it’s possible since brake hold is usually a feature of an electronic parking brake...pre-facelift W204 has a mechanical parking brake.

That's not the case. The facelift W204 also have a mechanical parking brake. What the HOLD function does is that it applies the regular brakes for you. This is done through a signal sent to the master cylinder which commands it to apply the brakes without the foot depressing the brake pedal constantly. That's it. I highly doubt this is something that can be retrofitted this easily.

It’s all coding and input from the ABS sensors as far as I know. Broken by pressing a pedal.

I’d also love to try on my facelifted w203 with MTX.

I have the “upgraded” ESP module.

You're right! It's the regular brake done by ESP/ABR unit. I have coded the ESP ecu HOLD to "Ja" meaning it has been activiated but the function still doesn't come up. I guess the rear SAM has to be replaced with HOLD support from factory like those on prefacelift W212.

Has anyone succeeded in retrofitting this brake HOLD function to the prefacelift W204? I need your help!!

Hi, you changed the ESP module on your w203? To the one that support HOLD function from factory? Have you been able to get the HOLD function to work?

I wonder if it’s worth your time and effort to get the hold function working (even if it’s possible). I hardly use mine. If you live in a hilly area, then maybe that’s your motivation.

No.
I upgraded it for Distronic.

HOLD would be great though...so now I’m thinking about that...

For me, it's worth the time & efforts. I live in densely populated city with a lot of traffic lights and stop-n-go traffic. No worry with hilly areas as there is already hill start assist from factory in prefacelift w204.

Nice upgrade!! HOLD is actually quite essential and useful. It's become a standard feature on European cars now.

Thanks.
I have a w203 and this project has been a loooooooong road.
Maybe soon we can get it to actually work.
Haven’t been able to unlock the ME yet...

Adding HOLD function to Pre-Facelift W204 (08-11)

Did anyone successfully enable brake hold function to PL W204?
I recently changed the hold function to "ja" and landcode to "ROW" in ABR module. I also change the landcode to "ROW" in CGW module. But the hold is still not enabled.

Thanks

The pre-facelift W204s and many other Mercedes 2000 and up have a hill start assist...meaning when you release the brake pedal to accelerate, the brakes hold for like 3 seconds so the car doesn't roll back until you accelerate. This is a classic Mercedes subtle feature and for a time pretty unique to the brand.

The brake HOLD feature is different though...if you just want to keep the car stopped at a stop light without pressing the brake pedal. I agree it seems like something that could be retrofitted entirely through programming...but knowing how complex these systems are chances are you need a hardware upgrade also. Who knows, something in the pre-facelift brake system may not be compatible with the HOLD programming.

Hi, my car is 2008 C350 and has two type of hold functions, 1-The one if you stop at a hillside, it holds brake for seconds, you pull away, 2-I can apply braking with my speed control(Max) by adjusting it down, it labour against engine and apply brakes to quickly get you down to lower speed, I use this a lot-If I then step on the peddle it feels much stiffer and more agressive.

What is the ESP or ABR module SW and HW version on your c350? I wonder if they are completely different between c300 and c350
