2014 c300 front sam got wet (sunroof left open)

Like an idiot, I left my sunroof open overnight during a rainstorm.. After a few days of letting it dry out, I started it up today and the instrument cluster was not working along with the steering wheel controls. I also noticed the clock was not working on my navi system (navi works). Cruise also doesn't work.. Everything else seems to be working fine.. After some research, it sounds like the front SAM has gotten wet.. My question is, is it completely ruined or will it work if it is dried out?

Can you point me in the right direction for replacing it (if it is shot)?

What else should I check or do?

Thanks.

I can't remember but the front SAM is either behind the passenger glovebox or (same side,) within the hood by the cabin filter area.

I could be wrong with that.

That being said, I think it's more likely that some control modules got wet. My cousin in Europe had the same problem after getting his car detailed. Under the driver's side carpet, near the door, next to the side step, are a bunch of modules that connect the SAM to various electrical parts. I would think those got wet and are causing these problems.

Thanks for the reply. I pulled up the carpet and saw the bundle of wires running along the outside wall under the kick panel, but there didn't seem to be any moisture down there and the carpet is pretty dry. The carpet under/behind both front seats is still soaked though. I'm thinking about pulling out the front seats and pulling up the carpet. I already have an air mover set up in the back seat, but I doubt that will dry out the wiring completely unless it is exposed. From what I've read, it sounds like the moisture problem needs to be solved quickly or there will be more problems down the line.

Any other advice would be greatly appreciated!

I wonder if this would qualify as flood damage through an insurance claim?

I’m pretty sure that option is only in European/Eastern cars.

Luckily, I think I dodged a bullet... Knock on wood.

After taking the seats out, leaving the doors open and running an air mover for about 16 hours, the instrument cluster came back on everything seems to be working. I just set up a dehumidifier, so we'll see how much moisture is still left in there.. I don't smell any mold or see any type of damage to the seats...

I'm actually pretty impressed.. I've done a lot of things that you shouldn't do to a car like this, but it keeps going like a little German tank.

As I know I have this option, just out of curiosity I checked my VIN and I have an option “345 Rain Sensor”. This could have sometime to do with the wipers also.

Unless your car is European/Eastern, the 345 Rain Sensor option is only for the wipers.

Im unsure if the auto closing sunroof is a separate option code.
