Question 2011 C250 4Matic (C300) M272 Runs rough and sputters at speed

Before I bring it back in to the shop I thought I’d check with all of you.
2011 C250 4Matic (Canada only, same engine as the C300)

Symptoms
Runs rough and sputters at 1600-2200 rpms, even worse up a hill.
Seems to run fine when cold, first few min.
Runs smooth while idling
Not throwing any codes or pending codes.

Replaced all the plugs, 4 Camshaft Adjusters, air filters and the intake manifold actuator (was broken)
Thinking maybe I should replace the Coils and the Fuel filter… Grasping at straws here…

180k miles or kilometers, as I see you are in Canada?

What type of fuel do you put in it? Have you ever changed the fuel filter? If not, I would at least certainly try that.

You say “no codes”, but what did you use to scan? P0300 and associated cylinder codes for misfires should have shown up.

I can’t imagine a fuel filter being that clogged at only 180k.

180k kilometers, yes in Canada.
I've used a standard OBD2 reader as well as Toadscan, both show no codes.
I put in mid grade fuel 89 octane.
Never changed the fuel filter, don't mind as they're only $50 or so.
Thanks again for all the help guys.

What grade fuel does the gas cap say to use? If it’s 91 or higher, and you put in 89, that could definitely be your problem, especially if it gets worse under load.

Even though mine is designed to allow for e85 fuel, it still says 91 octane for normal gas.

Drive gently until you you get the 89 stuff out of the system.

You could have carbon buildup on the valves, it would cause that exact problem. Driving wise, do you do short trips mostly or long drives on the highway?

Hi All,

Just a quick update to my issue. Turns out it was my transmission (torque converter)

Anybody know a good transmission shop in the Hamilton/Oakville (Ontario area)

Thanks

Kevin

Do you have a 722.9 7G-Tronic tranny? You may want to check www.fdt-online.com as an option. Complete rebuilt 7G transmissions for US$3000.
