The upstream lambda wide-band "O2" sensor is what the ECU uses to know how your engine combustion is performing.
The ECU keeps varying the injectors timings to deliver a perfect air/gas ratio based on load, temperature etc...

These sensors get contaminated, partialy plugged and give lazy response to change. The outcome is lack of power. Engine runs like it is old.

Most people think the "O2" is good until it gets flagged with an ECU code.... it makes your engine too lean until the internal ceramic heater finally blows open.

You don’t say if it’s a 250 or 300. Also the year

O2 sensor

I do have check engine light on, my mechanic said it could be throttle body?
Exhaust does smell a little rich.
I like the idea of replacing the O2 sensor, inexpensive and
pretty easy to do.
ECU has been replaced too, about 15-18,000 miles ago.
The top end of the motor was redone at approximately 28,000 under warranty.
I also upgraded the plastic turbo tube that runs across the front of the motor with an aluminum model.
I appreciate your input!

would you happen to know the cost to do so? I believe the dealer did do this when I had a failure 28,000 miles. Cost over 3k
how often mileage wise should this be done
thank you
