Brake Shudder
For years my brakes have shuddered when I apply them. The car shudders but the steering wheel doesn't shake. Coming to a slow stop I hardly notice it, but when braking hard the car shakes pretty badly. I just assumed this was caused by "warped" rear disks and would be fixed when the pads needed replacement, but those pads seem to last forever. A couple of days ago the thought came into my head that maybe the shaking is caused by the antilock brake system. Is there any way to test the antilock brake actuation?

I wouldn't push your luck playing with extreme stops. Brakes won't get better with further warping

The ABS doesn’t feel anything like a shudder. It is a noticeable stop/release a few times a second.
To avoid a discussion about whether brake disks warp or not, I’ll just say yours probably have “excessive runout.” It’s not really safe and can affect the proper function of the ABS. Your brakes should be serviced. The car will be much more pleasant to drive, too.
