Lightbulb 7G-tronic conversion into 7G-tronic plus A89 code

Hello,

Have a problems with current electric plate which need to be replaced, I'm on 7g-tronic 722.9 and readed a lot of information that code A89 is a code for 7gtronic plus and that it gives a more responsive accelerator pedal and looking at the EPC program, in order to convert to 7gtronic plus only need to replace the hydraulic plate and the filter with pan etc.
Can anybody give me some suggestion about that? Seems I need to code electric plate, but for my VIN it will not activate A89 code, what can I do?

Thanks

You are correct that A89 indicates 7G-Tronic Plus transmission.
A89 refers to reduced friction that improves fuel economy. But I don’t think conductor plates from 7G-Tronic Plus and 7G-Tronic are interchangeable. The 7G-Tronic Plus uses different transmission fluid and has different friction material in the clutch packs. I could be wrong, but I think what the EPC is indicating are the different conductor plates and pans for the two transmissions.

that was my thoughts too, but I took vin from car with a89 and found that difference only in hydraulic plate, oil pan and oil container, and yes some clutch packs, but they have no marks related to a89, seems they have only some improvements, because I can't imagine what steal or from what they was done can be replaced which will not handle new oil type.

Interesting discovery, I guess that is why they call it the plus and not give it a whole new name.

Yes. It’s an upgrade not a new version. All the gear sets and ratios are the same. But the new friction materials and the new transmission fluid (236.15) have to go together.

So maybe as Viktori says, if you use the conductor plate, solenoids, and new pan from a Plus but stay with the old red transmission fluid (236.14) because you still have the old clutch packs, maybe everything works okay. Or maybe better.

The only problem that may occur would be if the Plus conductor plate cannot adjust for the solenoid fill times with the 236.14 fluid, which is higher viscosity.

solenoids and conductore plate the same as for 236.14, but only vgs3, not vgs2 as I have right now, and clutch packs there is only near 4-5 rings new but I'm not sure that's they related to it, because it looks like they have different construction or something, but marks a89 have only hydraulic plate and oil filter and related materials, but it's by base, I need somebody who saw them from inside to comment such things.

there is strange things comment on video that a89 gives start-stop, currently I have already start-stop function from construction.

With old oil it will not works due velocity.

A89 doesn’t affect start stop. It refers to the 7G-Tronic Plus with the 236.15 fluid.
I have A89 but do not have start/stop. You have start/stop but do not have A89.
You have researched this deeply and only an actual Mercedes transmission specialist will know more.

It seems like 7g+ doesn't have issues with the transfer case so maybe they changed something there too.

Have you successfully placed 7g+ trans in a 7g car?

Nobody in real will do it, you will never find anybody who knows difference for 100%, so if your 722.9 is broken completely and you had a chance to buy used 722.9 with a89 go with it, and you will get almost nothing, only some sort of mileage when your 7g will live longer then old one, that's it.

Keep in mind that these transmissions need to be coded to match the VIN for anti-theft purposes. You would need to check with a Mercedes dealer whether it is even possible to code a new transmission (7G+) if it was not in the build for your VIN. Or you could reach out to @BenzNinja since he may be able to tell you. Find him on this forum.

So please explain why your commercial here?

First, it's not my commercial. I'm just offering help. You don't want it, don't take it. But don't come here asking for help and then call someone a liar because you don't like the answer!

You have something against BenzNinja? I never said he was the only one who could help, but you're the one saying, "official dealer will give big price". I recommend @BenzNinja because he has always been able to help me with my coding requirements and is able to do it remotely. And I'm not sure you know what is involved in coding the 7G TCM. I'm pretty sure it requires access to Mercedes online servers in addition to having an SDS.

The transmission is in the DAS, so bottom line is that if you don’t get that part right, you’ve got nothing.
I think a 7G+ swap in on a 7G car is possible. But I haven’t researched the details since I’m done with 204s completely. Maybe an ECU flash to a version that came with an A89 car would be appropriate, but I doubt it’s required since the conductor plate handles everything except the actual shift command. Getting the ECU, TCU, EIS all synced to the VIN is the big issue.

someday benzninja helped you with some simple question and after that you think you can put your small experience nose in threads with serious questions? really respectful,
another case that you not even read a thread and starting to help linking to a message which I posted a year ago, respectful twice.

Mercedes online server is not requred for any coding in this car, cuz it's old, but you can't know it, because you post recommends without reading a thread.

So you didn't need a friend like me. Now you come and say "Don Corleone, give me justice." But you don't ask with respect. You don't offer friendship. You don't even think to call me "Godfather." You come into my house on the day my daughter is to be married and you ask me to do murder - for money

another helper without reading even a subject, thread was about conversion not a simple replacing and last one can be done almost with nothing, only coding WITHOUT online
