Timing cover leaking oil

Multi-point inspection detected timing cover leaking oil and recommended re-sealing, and replace cam magnets. I am planning to buy this for cam magnets repair, but not sure how to reseal timing cover. Any advice appreciated.

Can you see where the oil is leaking? And what makes them say to replace the cam magnets? Its not a very easy or inexpensive job so its why im asking.

If it were me I would thoroughly clean the area and monitor it for any oil leaking. I believe the timing covers are sealed with a sealant and dont think they really are known for leaking. You would see oil coming from around the timing covers.

And there are 4 cam adjusters, 2 on drivers and 2 on passenger side, id want to find out the reason they want to replace them all. If they are leaking oil they sell just the seals. You dont mention any check engine light or fault codes or engine not running properly.

On my M272 one of the camshaft position sensors was leaking oil so I simply replaced the o-ring and problem solved. Mine didnt look as dirty as in your photo but if i left it it probably would have been in time.

Does your drivers side look like that?

Would hate to see you spend time and money doing all that work if its only a leaking 92 cent o-ring.

I don't have a check engine light or fault codes. But I do get the oil level low warning frequently. I lose about a quart of oil every month or so. So I do have a leak. Which sealant is used to seal the timing cover?

I have never done it so havent really looked into whats needed. Quick search comes up with this sealant:

I was thinking if your going to do the drivers side cover and remove the oil cooler you may want to remove the entire oil filter housing and replace that gasket while your in there. Instead of just the oil cooler gasket.

I’m calling BS on the timing cover diagnosis. As pointed out clean it first and monitor. What does leak are the orings for the cam sensor, maybe the actuators, but the timing cover is a money grab.

that’s seepage at most, if you were leaking 1L from there it’d be drenched. I wouldn’t worry much, replace the o-rings and clean it. Chances are if your losing 1L a month your probably burning it. Don’t fall for the timing cover reseal.
