It will grow on alot of people after a year or so. All in all I think the final production version will be nice, including with the AMG package.

totally agree. When the new 7 series came out from BMW, I was like, who is going to buy that monstrosity. Today, if I were considering a 70-80k car, that'd be the first thing I'd look at.

Then again, I overrate BMWs. The only reason why I like them is because 1, they handle well, a huge criteria for me and 2, the BMWs include maintenance when Mercedes doesn't.

I agree with you completely, ultraseven. The same thing has happened with just about every car that I've owned or actively researched during a generation change, including those from other manufacturers. There are still people that prefer the W202 over W203, W210 over the W211, W208 over the W209, and there will be people that prefer the W204 over the no doubt highly derivative/generic/featureless W205

I've noticed the same thing at Rush concerts. The loudest cheering is always for the songs that are for songs up to and including the previous album, but never for the one they are actually touring. They cheer for those on the next tour.

My two cents, I like the way the W204 looks in these pictures. If I were shopping new cars in the price range, and could wait long enough, I'd give it a close look.

e harmon

As a W203 owner with the 2005 C230 Kompressor. I often find myself looking at the W202 modle year 2000 C230/C280 with sport package. I just really like that design.

While the W203 has no faults in the design, especially with the face lift, I still really like the W202.

My favorite S Class has been the W140, especially the 1999 model.

My favorite E Class has been the W210 2001, 2002 models.

I really like the older SL as well.

BMW wise, I really appreciate the 2001 740i Sport, 2003 540i and 530i Sport, and the E46 M3. Don't like much else from the BMW.

I guess I'm a sucker for older cars.

Yet, the new W204 C Class actually doesn't look bad in my opinion, most people here don't like it, but I don't mind it at all. But we'll have to see later on.

I wonder why they test the car in PA, it's not an area where there are many temperature/conditions extremeties.

There's more to testing than just how much it can take. Don't forget, these cars are designed in germany, where road conditions are much different than they are here.

Overall, I think its a massive letdown.

I think its pretty amazing that the same spy shots weve been seeing for nearly three years now are spot on! ITs DULL!!!!! Lets see...Acura nose, Lexus's LS400 headlights....pretty plain profile, full diaper ***, and it has really ugly shaped tailights.

Hey, you're right. Looks also a bit like the previous Toyota Camry in the United States.

Oh, man, i don't like the steering wheel AT ALL. Don't like the fact that there's going to be the iDrive equivalent of the Comand System. Otherwise, the interior doesn't look too bad, the top of the dashboard is a bit barren, not much wood trim or metal trim. Slightly boring.

And in the interior....EXACTLY the same as the 3 year old spy photos!!! Damn that's funny.

And that interior is nasty? Who thought they could make the steering wheel look worse? And what is going on at the centerstack? Where is MB going to put all that fake looking overly glossy wood?

I wonder how the 'sport sedan' version with AMG kit looks like. Do you guys think the AMG kit will be standard for the US?

The CLS, is just not my thing. It's too... not conservative, the tail of the CLS looks like it came from a terrible nightmare involving a witch from the Grimms fairy tales.

The SLK is a very nice car on the exterior, but sit inside and look at the dashboard material. Feels like rubber.

The new S, everybody who's seen it in person that I am very familiar with haven't been too inspired by its styling.

The cars in the current Mercedes lineup that I appreciate are:
C,
2007 E (don't like the instrument cluster),
2007 CLK (don't like the instrument cluster with the big clock and digital gauges),
the SL,
CL,
SLR,
and the G.

If they would change the instrument cluster on the E and the CLK, I'd be more impressed.

Unfortunately, I don't think the AMG kit will be standard in the US, at least not in the first few years, perhaps after the redesign.

It will probably have a flatter nose (notice that the bumper and the radiator grill are almost flat instead of the radiator grill set behind the bumper somewhat) to run over pedestrians without hurting them as much.

The body package will probably be similiar to that found in the new E Class after it's facelifted for the 2007 model year.
