Have you guys seen the Lexus IS's side mirrors? They're clunkier. Imagine some supermodel who had Dumbo sized ears. That's like the one thing I really don't like about the car.

Well, I have to say, I think I won't be desiring the new C Class once it comes out.
The new E Class facelift is coming out soon. I think it looks alright.

As of May 15th: 2006 C230 Black on Black
The lines of the new C seem to be more dramatic, but fabulously unoriginal at the same time. The Mercedes line over the years has carried a shape of elegance that falls on the side of classy or sporty. In the craftsmanship of a small sedan, the lines should complement its stature, not make its smaller size obvious. It is hard to picture the car with the padding off; maybe enough curves are present to make it pop and not the way of the new BMW 3 Series.
The engineers behind the new body style know that when you throw a three-pointed star on the hood it immediately gives a car class. This car may need it; I think they could of done much more with the design, however it is not all horrific. It missed the mark just enough to make me confident I won't fall out of love with my 2006 C230 and leave her for a younger one.

Personally, I dont' see how anyone can judge how great/bad the car looks with that much masking on it. Sure, you can see some of the major lines - but the beauty comes out in the details and how they flow, which are all still hidden. And regardless... it'll never be as ugly as the new 3 series.
I'll reserve my judgement until we see some un-masked pics.

I like what they did w/ the nav screen... how it pops up only when you are using it... or thats what it seems like.... w/ the new body style the new C class will definately be the baby s.....

That looks like the luxury version based upon the design of front spoiler and I prefer the look of sport version over the luxury version. I think the W204 is going to be okay. I can see myself trading my W203 for it in a couple of years.

First of all, I don't think it'll be as ugly as the 3 series.
It so far doesn't look too bad. Although I'm not a big fan of the new S Class (I still think the W140 S Class was the physically most beautiful car Mercedes ever made), I think the C Class will look somewhat like the new S CLass.
It won't be too bad though. It'll still be the best looking car out there.
Personally, I don't like the:
Lexus' front nose and side mirrors
Infiniti G35 looks a bit like a space ship, just a bit; they're coming out with a redesign though
BMW 3 series is a bit boxy these days, interior is useable though
Never was a big fan of Audi, although it doesn't look bad at all.
Cadillac CTS was never really that big on my list either. It looks a bit alien.

One with 4 wheels
I've always liked the overall look of the W203; it just looks sexy.
The new W204 lost most of its curves. Kinda like how the current Viper did after the redesign. The Viper of the 1990's were sexy and curvy. The current one just sucks ***** because they squared out everything, rendering the design boring and flat.
Cars are like chicks. Sex appeal matters.

I have to say, seriously, if you look at the W203, I can find no complaints. Look at the front, the car looks great, the side, not bad at all, the rear, a little high and chubby but otherwise excellent.
It's truly a flawless car.
Compare that with the Lexus IS, the front looks a little low, the side doors look too big and there is no impact strip line to break the huge expanse of spacing, and the rear is good, but the rear window is so thin that the driver can hardly see out.
The BMW 3 series, the front is liveable, the side is too chisled, same as the IS. The rear is pretty bad, boring taillight design.
The interior of the C Class is faultless as well, especially the facelifted model.
The W204 is going to have a hard time to beat it.

Everybody's seen this link from a previous post on this forum right?

I think it looks liveable. Am I the only one? Regardless, I still think my C looks the fine the way it is.

Thanks for the pics!
The overall design layout does not seem that much changed: door shapes, wheelbase, roofline even the width seems identical. I actually took the side picture and superimposed it to one I have from my car and they are a near match.
I will be greatly disappointed if the beautiful headlights give way to very ordinary looking Opel Astra-like headlamps that are shown here.
The taillight seems to have been inverted.. looks like a Citroen Xsara back end now... yikes!
In other words seems more like an evolution than a full redesign... maybe a similar case to the new E-Class, albeit they did keep the lovely face.

Thanks for the link Patrick. It doesn't look bad so I think it'll grow on people in time. Once I see the AMG model in white with quad tail pipes everything's gonna be okay.

maybe it's a safety feature where it adds "downforce" to the car.
or else i can't think of a reason why they make it so huge!
i have no complaint except i don't like how they break the curve of the rear windows. to me most (if not all) MB have the rear windows to a point where BMW have the curve by the rear windows. i guess that's the style difference between the two brands. but now the new c have the curve just by the end of the window so to me it lost some of the MB style.
i hope people are not going to say they copy the center screen from audi A8 like the S from bmw. looks like the command control are all below the air-vent. so maybe it won't have the "i-drive" knob by the center then. i still can't get over that the speedo looks exactly like the E's one.

My pleasure to provide you with pics. Glad that you found them helpful.
I agree, the quad tail pipes does help.
As for me, I'm going to stick with my C until 150k miles (still got a long ways to go, it's been 16 months and only 10.5k miles); so I will see the next C Class when it is updated. Then again, I'll probably want to move up. I think I'm going to move over to BMW or Italian.

2008 BMW 335xi Coupe
i am having trouble deciding if i should wait for the new C or just get the current C230...
from the looks of it, i dont think the new one will be all that bad.. my only complaint is that in the interior.. the center dash seems really cramped.. the air vents are so tiny, and i really dont like the pop-up screen..

This is my rule, and most people will disagree to it but oh well.
I always try to buy the car the first year it's been facelifted. I think that's the best, because by then, they'd have gotten all the kinks and bugs out.
So, if you like the C Class right now, get it. If not, get the BMW 3 series or the Lexus IS. Even those are the first years out and might have one or two kinks, they will still do better resale wise than a C.
